    Daniel Agger

Sorry if I'm repeating things, but I couldn't find an existing thread for this, or for Agger alone.

Did you see the report in the post?

"Dec 30 2008 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

DANIEL AGGER has reiterated his desire to stay at Liverpool – but admits there remains a possibility he may move away from Anfield.

Talks are still continuing over a new contract for the Denmark international, whose present deal has 18 months remaining.

Agger was sidelined for almost 12 months with a metatarsal problem and, after returning to full fitness in the summer, struggled to regain his place in the starting line-up before Martin Skrtel suffered a knee injury in October.

Agger had expressed his frustration at being on the sidelines, with reports in his homeland hinting the 24-year-old was considering buying out his contract.

It led to speculation both Real Madrid and AC Milan are considering making a bid for the centre-back in the forthcoming January transfer window.

And when asked if he will stay at Anfield, Agger said: “I hope so. I don’t know what the hold-up is. I let the club do the talking and I will try and do mine on the pitch.

“I am trying to improve. I feel it is getting better and better in every game. I am feeling more comfortable and trying to improve in every game."

I'm especially worried about the bit in bold. Why would there be a hold-up? Why wouldn't he (or his agent) know what it is? Or they just a bit more relaxed about these things than we are?
    Really?

boy's a talented player and we should do whats necessary to keep him. a comparable replacement will cost twice as much, may not settle and will upset the balance of the team.

I wouldn't be suprised if he left in January, along with Babel.

          I wouldn't be happy mind.

It's madness that we have not tied him down yet.

He is worth £20m+ and will soon only be worth half that. He isn't the only one in that situation.

Laughable is the right word to how we take care of our contract talks.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

As soon as Rafa signs then he'll get his new contract.

Exactly. Same for all the players who Rafa wants to stay.
                    Oh I don't know.

Probably due to a combination of the owners and Rick Parry

His words could mean anything. It could mean the club is delaying things but it could also mean his agent has told him to wait. It could also just be a fib because he doesn't want to commit himself yet but obviously he knows admitting that might jeopardize his relationship with the fans.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

The think is we will not make much money on selling him. He is running out of contract, and a replcement will probably cost more.
If the clun has to sell players to survive (somrthing that might happend<9 there are lots of players we will make more money on.

My guess he`s waiting to see what happends with Rafa and the club in jan/feb.

its obvious what is going on. the hold up is agger wants a big pay increase because he knows full well if he goes to AC or madrid he will get it especially on a free, but liverpool are reluctant to give him a big pay increase because in all likelihood he wont be first choice with the return to fitness of skrtal and the evergreen hyppia.

I personally would give him the pay increase because a) it would tie him to a long contract you could expect a big fee if sold, and b) as we've seen with the long term injury to skrtal **** happens and without competant players in reserves ambitions can easily evaporate.
