Babel is confident he can respond over the coming months and play a part in Liverpool's title charge.

The 22-year-old said: "I'm still young, but I want to play as many games as possible. We talked and the boss outlined the areas where I need to improve my game, and hopefully I can bring those areas up to the next level soon.

"My career has had a lot of ups and a few downs until this point. But I am confident it will be okay.

"When I was young I didn't get picked by Ajax after three trial games. After the third game, I thought I didn't want to play for them anymore. But when I returned to my club I did well and eventually Ajax came back for me again. I take a lot of strength and belief from that.

"I'm always confident. I know I have potential. It's up to me to work hard. Nothing good ever comes for free and I believe in my ability.

"But unfortunately only 11 players can start each week, and it's up to those who don't play as much to work even harder."

Babel added: "Somebody said recently that if the second half of the season goes the same way as the first, we'll be champions. Let's hope so.

"Right now we are top of the table and doing well.

"I want to do my bit for the team as we challenge for the title."

We really need the lad to start performing now, lets hope he can do it.

exactly, just keep working hard and it will all pay off. Babel needs to focus on the football and realise that talent

He also has one of the hardest shots on him, i've seen in a while.

As soon as he opens up in front of goal, you know there may be a chance.

Good to hear. Thought he was excellent in the second half of last season. Lets hope he can do something similar or better this season.

I don't really remember us getting somebody like Henry or Ronaldo and turning them into world class.

              We normally get rid.

Gerrard aside and maybe Sami, i'm not really sure.
I hope maybe Skrtel at some point.

I think it may have been different for Babel, had he gone to Arsenal for example.

Good lad. Maybe he is starting to realise that to get anywhere with Rafa you have to work hard.

He has so much potential, but i still have my doubts about him.

On his day he is a top class player. He needs to step up and solve us alot of problems. He really should be making the RW spot his own against the lesser teams.

Him and Riera on the wings have the potential to cause absoloute havoc.

                    haha.

Babel needs a long run of games in order to get his confidence back up. When he scored recently, you could see the pent up feeling the lad has. If you cast your mind back to last year and compare it to the Babel we see now, his progression is nothing of the sort, it's regression. The last few times i've seen him play, he's been more intent on tracking back and it would appear that Rafa has been working on this with him. I just hope it doesn't ruin the better aspects of his game.

Hopefully, we won't bring in many new faces, so we need for the players with great potential at the club to step up.

Can't help to think that it would do him a world of good to have a run in the team.

Actions speak louder than words. His performances overall have been P*** poor. he has the attributes to become a good player, but he clearly doesn't have a footballing brain. Carra recently said that Babel and Kuyt are the thickest players at the club (Kuyt regulary scores goals in training inside the no shoot line and always argues why it's not a goal lol, and the notion that all Dutch players are all Bergcamp, cruyf, molby... type players was garbage.... Power and pace is not enough.....

When we signed this lad, and i heard how Ajax had once dropped him from their academy because he was deemed not good enough, a skilful player no doubt but lacked something, so, he went away and worked on the parts of his game that were letting him down in Ajax's eyes until they took him back into their Academy.

I thought, well, one thing we wont have with this fella is attitude problems, he'll listen and learn and get better.

His wanting out mid season, and during such a BIG season too was hard to stomach for me, it's just one season lad, to even consider not being at LFC for the rest of this season was bad, and not what i expected from him, it made me wonder whether the Ajax academy comeback was just done out of stubbornness with an i'll show you type attitude, and maybe Rafa is attempting something similar with him by having this little chat, telling him how it needs to be if he is make it as a top top player anywhere.

Hopefully he will respond as he is saying he will, because he's my type of player when on form.

for me babel has two big things he must overcome to succeed at the very highest level like messi or ronaldo.

firstly he must have belief that he has the talent to make it and then more importantly he must have the desire to be the best, to want to win every game and to show everyone that he is a player. The will to take the game by the scruff of the neck and run it.

Secondly, he has to play more games because young players need to play to improve and learn. He will only do this by taking on board what rafa tells him and then showing it on the pitch.

He has started to look 'hungrier' on the pitch whenever he comes on because against stoke he came on and straight away tried to take on defence and that shows you a level of desire. You know the goal he scored against newcastle meant a lot to him because of his celebration.

This lad has to potential to be whatever he wants to be and could be the difference in the second half of the season to finishing top or not.

He also needs to develop the ability and confidence to go on his left side. When he plays LM, it's almost set in stone that he'll cut in onto his right foot, and fullbacks arent completely stupid, they're working it out.

The main bonus Messi and Ronaldo have over Babel is that they are allowed to go on the pitch and do what they like. They in effect have minimal responsibilities at the back. They are there to win games by attacking and that is it. Babel is expected to do a lell of a lot more by Rafa.

Both Ronaldo and Messi can drift out of games and the main criticism Ronaldo got was that he goes missing in the big games. This was down to tight marking when he had the ball. As his only contribution came on the attack, in games Man utd struggled in (Barca) it seemed he was not on the pitch. Again, this would not be accepted by Benitez.

Babel is more than ready to play the role they carry out, but not quite there to do what is required at Liverpool.
