    Zonal Marking

did anyone else pcik up on Scolari's comments in his press comments that he has finished with man to man marking and is now going zonal.

How many other temas in the premiership use Zonal instead of man to man? I know Sky love Zonal defending as a stick to beat rafa with.

      So true.

Here in Germany coaches of youth teams (me) have been instructed to start teaching zonal marking rather than the old man to man. We are also pushing on with 4-2-3-1 rather than traditional 4-4-2.

Those that killed her, were following the law.

So Rafa is, as we Liverpool fans realise, a visionary!

to be honest he's probably not the first to use some things, but non the less he uses them with effect

very interesting, give it a few years and Germany will have perfected it and the whole world of football will be zonal marking with a 4231 formation

It makes sense, every defender has an area, if the corner/free kick comes near you, attack the ****er and get rid.

yep, makes perfect sence, the main problem when we use it is strong/tall players running infront of the defender to get the ball because nobody is tracking the run

I believe Zonal marking works and is a good system but alongside zonal marking there should be atleast 1 player man-marking the oppositions biggest threat. For me that would apply against the very best players only e.g Ronaldo or Terry

i'd be using that to our advantage against chelsea.

it takes a while for a new system to bed down and if this is the first serious match chelsea play then we should be working very hard on our setplays

To be fair we aint been critacised about zonal marking since Rafa's first season.

It kept getting mentioned in the media in his first season because it was a new concept, and because that was a really poor league season.

I believe in Zone to Man marking.

I thought German teams always played 532 or is that just the big boys ?

Are you predicting Germany will force those tactics on the rest of the world, probably at the point of a gun?

If so, it's hard to argue with it.
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
