I know its a scenario that will never happen now, but before rafa O'Neill was a firm favorite with a lot of lpool fans to get the job,and i was just discussing with a few mates what the side would have looked like with martin in charge, his fondness for home grown players is self evident and i am just curious whether we would have been happy if he had done the same thing with liverpool fc.

The team he has now he either inherited or bought for pretty large wads of cash. We'd probably do pretty well in the league with him but long-term I'd worry, and I think he'd get done over in Europe time and again
..and he's a bellend
oh and he wouldn't attract the players Rafa hasSack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

You just never know. Could Rafa have attracted Marlon Harewood? I think not.Originally posted by wiw View PostThe team he has now he either inherited or bought for pretty large wads of cash. To be fair MoN would probably do a great job for us. As much as everyone hates him due to the fact he had a run in with us over Barry, he is still a very, very good manager.
That's a poor statement. He has spent a few quid but not wads of cash. He got Ashley Young for 10 million. Money very well spent. Babel cost us £11 didn't he? I know who I'd rather have in my team at the moment. He got Friedel for peanuts. He got Carew in as a straight swap for Baros. That worked out brilliantly. The team he has now he either inherited or bought for pretty large wads of cash
He has passion and good tactical awareness too. He is a fabulous man manger also.
As for someone saying he doesn't strike you as a championship winning manager then I'd ask you to have a look at his Celtic record. Yes, it was in Scotland granted but he still did the job there.
One thing is guaranteed is that he would play our strongest team every week. He would not look at Stoke and think "how shall I play against them?" He'd just play our best side and watch us smash them as we should do.
I'd rather have Rafa by a long shot but to say O'Neill is either a bad manager (when he has proven to be a success everywhere he has been) or that he would not do a good job for us is wrong IMO. If Rafa ever left us I'd happily have him on board.

i think MON would have done a great job for us and i remember the season before GH left, there were big rumours that O'Neill was in line for the LFC job and everyone was happy with it.
However, if O'Neill had taken the job instead of rafa, just think how things would have turned out:
1. We'd still have Heskey as our centre main forward.....with 2 high-up wingers in support - most probably Ashley Young and also possibly someone like Bentley.....or Lennon....we could also have somebody like Kevin Doyle in our ranks!!!
2. We wouldn't have had Istanbul.....and also that would have meant that most likely Stevie would be wearing the blue of chavs week-in week-out.... we also wouldnt have got to another euro final in 2007!!!
3. We wouldn't have Reina, Agger, Insua, Skrtel, Arbeloa, Alonso, Riera, Mascherano, or Torres
4. on the other hand, we wouldn't have Lucas, Kuyt, Benny, Voronin or Pennent!!!
points 1, 2 and 3 outweight point 4 for me.......rafa all the way!!!
