Sami left out of the champions league squad again !!!

SAMI HYYPIA’S Anfield future could be called into question after the defender was again left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad.

The Finland international was not part of the 25-man pool for the group stages with UEFA rules limiting the number of foreign players. And Hyypia, a regular starter in the Premier League in recent months, has again been overlooked for the knockout stages with centre-backs Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher already at Rafael Benitez’s disposal.

Sunderland are among a number of clubs are monitoring Hyypia’s situation and could now make an effort to lure the veteran to the North East, although Benitez wants the player to stay.

While Hyypia misses out, Philipp Degen keeps his place in the Champions League squad despite having not yet completed a full game for Liverpool since his summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Degen has been sidelined by a succession of injuries, and picked up another knock playing for the reserves against Manchester United in midweek. Asked if Hyypia would be in the Champions League squad, Benitez said yesterday: “I don’t think so. It will be difficult.

“We cannot change too much. We don’t have too many options. We need a right full-back just in case. I have told him. It was very positive. He is a good professional and he understands. I want him to stay.”

    im lost for words.

      You're right, that's a very odd call.

It makes little sense to have Degen in the squad ahead of Sami. On the right there is Arbeloa, Darby and Carragher if needed, so its not as if we are short there either.

I think at the very least Sami as a great servant of the club deserves his place in the squad, even if he is unlikely to play a part in the rest of the tournament. After all i doubt Degen will play much of a part either.

Rafa's recent spate of incoherent ramblings, poor substitutions and team selections of have been extremely dissapointing as i have always been a fan of the man but if we lose touch with Man Utd over the next few weeks and he hasn't signed a new contract then there will be some major decisions to be made in regards to his position come the summer.

you know what even sami not starting is a great option to have on the bench. hes slow for sure but he wins everything in the air. need to keep it tight against long balls at the end or even up front he could have been an addition.

cant really believe deggen got in in front of him. i think we are watching rafa self destruct right in front of us
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Nothing odd about Rafa making a ridiculous selection decision, it's what he does.

Rafa said something about needing cover for Right Back - Degen hardly fits the bill as he is what keeps our medical staff in a job! Carra is cover for Right Back.

That is a very strange call from Rafa.

Don't think there's anything strange about this decision.

Well I dunno how long Degen is out for this time but we need some more cover at RB from a genuine full-back. We're more than well stocked at CB. All well and good saying Carra can cover at RB but he's limited there and there'll be plenty of games when we'll need attacking width from RB. Carra won't provide that and moreover he'll be needed in the centre where it will always be Carra + 1.

I feel bad for Sami but I would've made the same decision.

Degen is always injured though, that's a far more limited option at RB than Carra.

Well I imagine the plan is for him to not be injured from here on in.
