Can someone please explain to me how we had no say in the deal, and that if this were the case, why real madrid very generously offered to pay us millions.
You need to look at it from more than one angle. Wigan had no real say in he Heskey transfer but got £3.5m for him.

Owen would not have gone for a packet of crisps as we would instead have said bollocks and kept him for a season, his goals may have proved vital. I would say that Real paid the minimum fee that was required to convince LFC to sell. Rafa wanted money for his players, but we were not in a position to bargain for anymore. Mardrid would not have paid anymore as they probably never had any intention in keeping him. They already had an all star forward line and just saw him as a why of making a profit.

In hindsight we could have done what Villa are doing with Gareth Barry, and risked losing him for nothing, as Villa are. Maybe we would have still won the champions league without Luis Garcia, and maybe that victory would have convinced Michael to sign an extension. We'll never know.
    Forwards.......

How long did it take Fergie to win his first title?

This point seems to be avoided to suit.
Different era then. Still, you could argue that winning the FA cup kept Fergie in a job and that success in the Champions League has kept Rafa in a job.

As for Scolari, i dont rate him that highly.

See how i can disagree with you without adding a personal insult? You can aspire to that level of maturity hopefully.

I would say that is a personal insult as well Craig.

From memory we tried for about 3 other players before we agreed on Nunez. I dont think he was forced upon us but maybe he was the best on offer, and with Real knowing they had us over the barrel the best we could have got.

Danny, i dont question the figures regarding net spend, which is why i started the whole thread in terms of net spend. But irrespective of how you look at it, he has still bought £180mill worth of players. Its how he has spent it that is the problem. Whether those funds come from the yanks, cl money or from funds generated by player sales doesnt change the amount he has spent.

As you said my friend, we could have said bollocks to madrid if the fee was ridiculously low. So we do have some negotiating rights. I am not for a second saying that we even had the upper hand, but there is no way we were forced to take any one particular player. Maybe rafa chose not to spend on better players that madrid offered or maybe he just chose the wrong player.

                    Gold, absolute gold.

Sums up your attitude really. Riddled with double standard and hypocrisy. As for Baldemort, your evil henchman........

I can criticise Rafa when he's wrong, I just don't normally storm the forum following a draw, screaming for blood.

I agree entirely that rafa needs more time as long as he learns from his mistakes. We should stick with him and i have said so in other threads. But that has nothing to do with the nonsensical point you made. You're great. Great entertainment, please keep it up.

I get it now, you want Rafa to be more like yourself.............

Which examples of me 'storming the forum, following a draw, screaming for blood' can you provide?

                            None, i suspect.
