We've had some turkeys though
the thing is most have been relatively cheap 'flops' Man Utd spent how much on Veron?_____________________________________

Makes me laugh evrytime I see it:
Mark Gonzalez (£4.5m): “Only if you know nothing about football could you say he is not good enough to play in the Premiership,” fumed Benítez after the speedy winger was refused a work permit in 2005. A year later he got his permit. A year after that he had been sold to Real Betis. Apparently he was not good enough to play in the Premiership.
Forwards.......

I should add that whilst all failed at the club for one reason or another, at the time of purchasing some of them were the best available option and were only small gambles. After all, in the case of Bellamy he was here for one season and was sold at a profit. I wouldn't say he was a massive disaster either. I personally wish he was still here as he'd be ideal cover for Torres.
However like Keane I think he rightly sees himself as a first team player and would not be willing to play second fiddle. I tell you what, a player like Solskjaer at Man Utd is priceless!Forwards.......

Shamelessly nicked from elsewhere....
In response to a ****wit scum supporter posting about some of Rafa's
transfer signings I thought I'd do the same for the tramp.
Viv Anderson - He became Alex Ferguson's first signing since taking over as
manager of Manchester United and managed a paltry 3 goals and left after 3
years to move on a free to Sheff Weds.
Jim Leighton - Dropped in favour of Les Sealey for the 1990 FA Cup Final
replay. Leighton had conceded three goals in the first match as United drew
3-3, and Sealey made a series of spectacular saves as United won the replay
1-0. Sealey retained the position of first choice goalkeeper for the
following season and Leighton faded from view, eventually returning to
Scottish football with Dundee in March 1992, after loan spells with Arsenal,
Reading and Sheffield United.
Mal Donaghy - Immediately after joining United, Donaghy was United's
first-choice left-back for the 1988-89 season, missing only the League Cup
game for which he was cup-tied. However, his opportunities were limited in
the 1989-90 season, and he was unable to make even the substitutes bench for
the FA Cup final triumph over Crystal Palace. However, he did make the
substitutes bench for the European Cup Winners' Cup triumph in 1990-91.
United were First Division runners-up in 1991-92 and won their first-ever
League Cup, but Donaghy's first-team chances continued to be restricted and
he was also left out of the side that beat Nottingham Forest in the League
Cup final.
Ralph Milne - In November 1988, he signed for Manchester United in a
£150,000 deal. He arrived at Old Trafford two years after the appointment of
Alex Ferguson as manager, and was fielded as a left winger. However, he was
not successful in this position, and in the autumn of 1989, he lost his
place in the team to new signing Danny Wallace. The emergence of Lee Sharpe
as an even finer player in this position made Milne's first team chances
even more limited. Indeed, 1989-90 was the final season in which Milne
played a first team game for United, although he remained on the club's
payroll throughout the 1990-91 season until being given a free transfer in
June 1991. He never played senior football again.
Giuliano Maiorana - He made his debut on 14 January 1989 as a substitute
against Millwall in the First Division and came to prominence with an
exciting display on his first start in a live televised 1-1 draw with
Arsenal that April. Maiorana only started one more game and had four further
substitute appearances during the 1989-90 season. A few years later, the
official United magazine tracked him down and found him working in his
family's clothes shop in Histon. He revealed his view by saying that United
did not help him to find a new club after they released him.
Brian Carey - After several impressive displays for Cork City, Carey signed
for Manchester United on 24 August 1989, but four years later had still not
made a first-team appearance despite being 25 years old. In November 1993,
he was transferred to Leicester City but failed to win a regular first team
place and within three years had been sold to Wrexham.
Neil Whitworth - Manchester United spotted Whitworth's potential and signed
him for a fee of £45,000 in June 1990. His United debut came nine months
later, when he played in a 1-1 draw away to Southampton. However, Whitworth
did not play again for Manchester United and was shipped out on loan to four
different clubs
Karl Poborsky - On July 1996, Poborsky signed with Manchester United. He
would only manage one-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford. In January 1998,
he left for Portuguese league powerhouse Sport Lisboa e Benfica, where he
was at his best form, playing alongside Joao Vieira Pinto, and became an
instant hit and a fan favourite.
Shaun Goater - Goater's first professional club was Manchester United, but
he did not reach the first team, making his League debut in 1989 after
moving to Rotherham United.
Tony Coton - Coton's time at Manchester City was cut short by injury in
1995, and the signing of Eike Immel. In 1996, he moved across the city to
Manchester United for £500,000, a record fee for a transfer between United
and City. He never played a first team game for United and moved on to
Sunderland after just six months, for a fee of £300,000. He made a few
impressive performances for his new club (who had just been promoted to the
Premier League as Division One champions) before breaking his leg in five
places during a league match against Southampton. The injury marked the end of his career
Juan Veron - Oh dear, say no more. Donkey, even at Chelsea.
Dimitar Berbatov - Possible flop, only time will tell, snigger
Tim Howard, Roy Carroll, Sicknote Saha, Ricardo, Kleberson, Djemba Djemba,
Liam Miller, Neil Webb
Is there anyone I've forgotten off the list? In fact a lot of the above
where I managed to find Fergiescums transfer dealings over the years have
been left off. I wonder why?_____________________________________

Craig Bellamy - Bought for £6.5m, sold for £7.5m - £1m profit.
Gabriel Paletta - bought for £2m, released as part of the deal to sign Insua. - Now plays for Boca Juniors, one of the best teams in Argentina - one the the 1st choice centre backs.
Andriy Voronin - Signed for free, we still own him, now plays for Hertha Berlin in Germany who are 2nd in the league, he's started 13 out of 18 games this season and in a key part of the team - we should get some sort of fee for him if we sell before his contract runs out.
Jan Kromkamp - signed in a swap deal for Josemi, sold 6 months later for £2m.
Antonio Barragán - signed for free, sold for £680,000.
Mark Gonzalez - signed for £4.5m. sold for £3.5m, £1m loss.
Mauricio Pellegrino - signed for free, released for free. He was an important figure on the training ground in Rafa's first season, he helped bed in the zonal marking system, has not returned as a coach.
Fernando Morientes - signed for £6.3m sold for £3.1m, £3.2m loss, since leaving Liverpool he has scored 20 goals in 55 games for Valencia.
Josemi signed for £2m then swapped for Kromkamp (whol was sold for £2m.
Antonio Nunez - signed as a make weight in the Owen deal then sold for £2m.
Jermaine Pennant - signed for £6.7m, he's running his contract down and will leave on a free.
Total cost = £28m
Total recevied in sales = £18.7m
Total Loss = £9.3m
Plus we could still get a few million for Voronin.Last edited by ukfootballfan101; 03-02-09, 12:56 PM.

Wasn't he actually involved in a swap for Insua? In which case I think we did pretty well out of that.Originally posted by ukfootballfan101 View Post
