****s sake, he's never gonna wow us with tricks and flicks...he's our Park Ji Sung, our Darren Fletcher, the type of player that every successful team needs, a workhorse who takes the load of attackers, defenders and midfielders, and harries and hassles the opposition at every opportunity...take him out the team and we'd lose that, and be a worse team for it.

    IMO of course.
Park Ji Sung is not a work horse, whilst Fletcher plays in CM, not on the wing. Kuyt is not good enough to be a winger. Rafa likes him there because depsite what people say he is capble of scoring the odd goal. The reason Pennant was over looked was because he offered no goal scoring threat.

If Babel was to sort out his left foot he'd be in the starting XI ahead of Kuyt in my view.

Problem is, when Benni starts, he just doesn't seem as effective. He makes more of an impact coming off the bench, when defenders are tired, their reactions are dulled and their minds are that little bit slower. Rafa is using him in the right way at the moment, and getting the best out of him.

I still think the best option in our squad is to play Babel against the weaker teams. He attracts players on the wing because the opposition know he can beat a man with ease. If everytime we had the ball on the wing the opposition had to double up on them we would create space at will in the middle and would be constantly dragging players out of position.

Shame we couldn't have got Quaresma
ahead of the Chavs, or that Kuba.

The above formation would be ideal as Yossi can forget his defensive responsibilities and also draw players away for a Gerrard/Alonso shot.
Sorry but IMO this just wastes Stevie G. To me his best positions are AM behind Torres who he has a fantastic understanding with or RM. These positions are the two that he has had his best seasons and contributed the most goals from. I really do not think Stevie G is a true CM and for me Benny just isn’t good enough!

Not even as an impact sub?

He will either be a total waste of space, or will be a massive hit. Either way Chelsea don't lose out.

              With you on that.

Quaresma is an expensive show pony with no end product.

So glad we never signed him.

The fact that he has signed for two big clubs - Barca and Inter - and flopped miserably at both does not say much for his mentality either.

He probably just needs to feel loved, so it's probably best he didn't come here. Scolari knows whta he's all about so I'm guessing he'll get the required game time and will prove a hit.

Outlandsh skill and will be greta to watch in the Prem. I'd also say that he is the best in world football when it comes to using the outside of the boot - Spectacular at times. He has better control over that than what most players have with the instep, or even the side foot for some!

He is an impact player. Best used late on as a sub for 25/30 minutes when defences are tiring and we need to open them

Well they do when he is the total waste of space he has consistently been, even in the far poorer Italian league.

He is a useless show pony.

                      Kuyt was awful mate.

Couldnt' put a decent cross in to save himself, and his touch was all over the place in the first half.

Kuyt is a definate for the top teams, he was one of the reasons why Chelsea were pinned back into their own half and hardly had a sniff at goal. I would be happy to try someone like Benyoun out in the easier matches.

See at the end of the game (only caught the last ~20-25 minutes) my view certainly coincides with Woobus's. Obviously he could have been **** in the first half/prior to the sending off.

Kuyt was dogged in the first half and did allow us to put pressure on but they were doing the same to us. The only way we were making any progress was with fast accurate passes through the middle. Kuyt gave away the ball more than anyone. Great off hte ball, wasteful with it, basically.

Yeah once space opened up he allowed Yossi to get into that space for sure.

But in the first half he ****ed up at least 5 crosses, all of which were when he was under no pressure. On one occasion Gerrard clearly gave him a grilling too

if everyone in our team had the determination, the will to contribute, do the dirty work and never ever hide regardless of ability and form we'd be ****ing world beaters.
that's why he's in the team.
and of course his touch and crosses can drive you nuts. but again, that's worth more than bags of ability coupled with no bottle a la babel.
