I'm never sure about this - while it is more explicable it is also clearly more counter productive. I don't see how the booing that Lucas has endured at times benefits us at all. People bleat about the lack of chances young players get and then when one comes in to do a tactically demanding role they give them little chance.

At times it feels like I'm in some parallel universe Newcastle forum where they actually have a chance of winning something.

Everton are a very good team, but being unable to beat them once over 3 games is a concern considering the two squads.

Agreed. You'd swear they'd won the Champions League/. They are such a little club. Pity they didn't beat us in the 90 minutes though.
Does anybody know when the DVD of the game is being released??

Some more arbitrary thoughts on last night:

How good was Carragher? - he had an exceptional night IMO

Benayoun really is finding some form. If he made earlier decisions when gaps open up for him then he would be a huge asset for us. Was making better defensive decisions last night as well - credit to him.

I kind of feel we could have rested Torres - he looked shattered and played poorly as a consequence.

Alonso was awful. One exceptional ball showed his class. Freekicks were woeful.

I like Dossena's eagerness to get forward and make runs from deep. In his first few (generally poor games) his crossing was better - he seems to be thinking about it too much at the minute. Defensively he was decent too.

Skrtel is returning to form which is great to see.

Lucas was doing well but looks lacking in confidence and the tackle for the second yellow was a daft decision.

              Carra had a cracking game.

Benny is one of the most technically gifted players we have and a fantastic squad player.

If we'd rested Torres the whole world would have gone bonkers.

Alonso had a poor game by his standards, but then I also think that Everton to some extent brought us down to their level.

              Dossena hasn't impressed me yet.

I still maintain that Skrtel is an average defender. Agger to me is a gem waiting to be polished.

Lucas has to do better, he's a liability with his challenges.

Carra was awesome, but I wish our defenders didn't really have to be so busy considering the shield of defensive midfielders ahead of them.

Our midfield drops way too deep for my liking and we have an unhealthy obsession with passing the ball across the back line for no reason. Nearly got caught out once or twice last night as well.

We are just too rigid and mechanical in our play and movement. We need more fluidity and players need to be able to open up a lot more and play without inhibitions.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Yeah it was great seeing our fans throw things on to the pitch at the opposition players.....

                          EDIT: oh right, those socks.

I'm with Reecie on this - not that funny at all really.

Was there some story behind it being socks?

It shouldn't be encouraged but if you're brain dead enough to have to throw things on the pitch then socks are a better alternative to coins and mobile phones.
