    1. Aurellio takes free kicks
    2. Rob Jones was the best right back we have had in living memory

No wonder Charly feels let down
I think he does. He just reminds me of someone I used to play with, who was very average in all regards, but was so confident in their own ability that everyone else seemed to think they were great too.

Rafa certainly does. T'was he who told us we were all in for a treat and that he was a superior passer to Alonso, after signing him.

On that note, yes I feel let down.

Thought his delivery from corners on Sat was a marked improvement on what we usually get.

100 is 75 games. Thats not a huge amount. Thats like 1 and a bit in every game.

To be honest, I could take a better corner than half our team Gerrard consistanly fail to beat the first man, so that any ball that end up in the hands of the keeper actually looks good.

But I do agree Aurellios corners are a massive improvement, and if he plays, he should take them. Just keep him away from free kicks.

Yeah, we all were just passing, and signed up just because we feel so strongly on this issue. Or perhaps we are all the same person.

Since when has passing been taking a free kick

I have a different deffinition of a "good player", obviously.
He doesn't take many at all. Maybe one every 5 games or so.

Just because he missed, doesn't mean it was ****. He hit it as well as you could, James was stranded. Another 5cm and it would have been a goal.

Where did I state that it was?

I was saying I felt let down because his range of passing does not match Alonsos. It was a second, completely different point. Sorry if I confused you.

A miss is a miss. There are no prizes for nearly scored.

His stats read something like 90 shots at goal in 75 games. I am guessing the majority of those are FKs, as he doesnt have that many open play shots. 2 in 90 is 1 goal every 45 shots.

About the same as Lampard then

Those stats only equate to about 1.5 shots every game though - not a huge amount for a roving full-back.

I have to say I'm with Harv on this one 'cos I don't recall many Aurelio free-kick attempts at goal - certainly he rarely gets a sniff when Gerrard is on the field and Alonso is usually next in line.

When we signed Aurelio, Rafa stated that he was a better passer than Alonso. Well he's not. Rafa also stated that he was very good at free kicks and he has taken a significant number of free kicks for us when he has played. 99% of the free kicks he has taken have been absolutely garbage. He definately isn't the player Rafa made out we were signing. He is a good player though and if he can stay injury free from now until the end of the season, chances are he will be in top 3 of the best LB's in the premier league.

Being new or a 3 year regular has no bearing on someones opinion, thats the typical school yard tactics that pisses me off with the "look theres the new kid lets nick his ball" attitude .if your not in the clique your opinion does not count? a forum is where open opinions can be stressed and each to his own.My brother in law has been a season ticket holder for 15 years ,travelled to europe inc Istanbul and pre season and he aint got a computer so If he decided to buy one today and signed up on here would his opinion not count because he will have "im new" under his status?.Anyway thats me stress relief valve opened.Back to Aurellio he takes a lot of free kicks from positions of the field that his more suited to left footed players apart from Agger and maybe riera I dont see any other candidate and in 90% of match situation the freekicks are decided by Rafa before the game regarding who takes them and in what position of the pitch the free kick is taken from, granted his success rate is poor but of the 75 free kicks he has taken how many of them were actually shooting for goal or simply putting the ball into a certain area hence why gerrard or Alonso takes most of the shooting at goal free kick,I was sat in the Kop on maybe his first free kick against West ham maybe the same game when Agger scored that great goal and Kuyt made his debut and Aurellio had a cracking free kick brillantly headed off the line So early signs there was the lad has quality and if he can stay fit ( big If) himself and Insua should provide good options in coming seasons

What was he supposed to do? Say, "we've signed a china doll who some of you will realise is a very good addition to the squad when fit and some of you will think is ****?"

He's bigging up players he's signing and most managers do the same, nothing more, nothing less mate.
