The simple fact of the matter is, until we win the Premiership, Rafa, his decisions and our team in general will always be subjected to more scrutiny and criticism than Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.
As much as we all hate to admit it, with three titles won on the bounce, the current champions are still very the benchmark and their recent record is second to none. Yes of course they are going to be seriously weakened with the loss of Ronaldo but any journalist or pundit being paid to voice their opinion is going to look pretty silly putting the boot into Utd when any argument decrying their demise or criticism of Fergie's decisions can so easily be shot down.
Chelsea, and to a lesser extent Arsenal, are the only other two sides that have come anywhere near to breaking Utd's stranglehold on the Premiership meaning that, in the eyes of most journalists and pundits, they've also earned the privilege to be shielded from the type criticism usually associated with us. Yes we finished second and thus higher than Chelsea and Arsenal last season but I seem to remember someone once saying first is first, second is nowhere. That said, I think that, given their lack of silverware over the last few years, it's only the way Arsenal play the game that has given them such a stay of execution. Watch the knives begin sharpening for Weger should his team fail to deliver anything again this season.
From what I read on here, the vast majority of Liverpool fans know and appreciate the fantastic job Rafa has done for us. There are also some journalists who give us a fair deal; as well as Tomkins, Henry Winter and David Maddocks comes to mind. However, fair or not, until Rafa delivers the premiership, expect much of the same from the Mersons, Keys, Lawros, et al of this world so you might as well just deal with it.
