    surprise surely and yes prob was more a 3-4-3 but tried my best

          I'm such a geek - I genuinely thought about that when I made my original post. I have an oddly specific set of criteria for writing formations and suffice to say I went with what meets my rigorous approval. In this instance though I'm pretty happy with either.

          Basically the important thing is that it was a different formation to Hoddle's England 3-5-2 which could effortlessly switch to a flat back 8, setting the tone for the national side under attack for the next decade.
