The cusion is irrespective of form though as it is judged on how quickly it can be reversed and how many games remain.
It can only get finer by the margin of one game (if they beat Fulham) therefore by very definition it's has to be called a 'fine' margin even if, as you rightly say it's a big ask. If it's still a two game margin with 5 left then it's a big margin.
Surely if they beat fulham, it gets wider and not finer?
For me, if you speak of 'fine margins', it refers to something which can be overturned or closed, with one thing going your way. Eg, they lose ONE game and suddenly, we go top.
It's a bit like in a single match, there are games which are poised and are decided as a result of one single incident - piece of magic or a mistake, and the winner is scored.
That's fine margins, as i see them. A five point gap isnt for me.
Not really. Although Torres has been injured, he's sill scored more than Berbatov and generally looked more threatening.
At the end of the day, the whole exercise was one big cock sucking exercise. You could make up a million "rules" to exclude some players over others.
At the end of the day, there's not a manager anywhere that would omit Gerrard, Torres, Ronaldo, Vidic, Ferdinand and Rooney out of their 1st choice team.
And who in their right mind would pick Fletcher over Carrick, Mascherano or Alonso.

This thread is great, but in the end, they are better overall because of their attacking superiority and will win the league at a canter. Whether they have significantly better players, i'm not convinced, but the way they play is more effective than the way we play and beating teams like Fulham comfortably is probably the main reason they are pulling clear.
