A three goal win and a great party?

What kind of drugs are these Real folk on?

    And can I have some?

Real Madrids weakness is their defenders not having the ability to control the ball and pass it quickly. We have Torres and possibly Benayoun playing in the attacking roles so it is imperative that they press at all times especially Cannavaro who has a tendency to be a bit reckless with his passing.

Whilst Heinze and Ramos will galavant up, it is key that in order to exploit the space we get by using quick counters mixed with long passes in the direction of Torres preferably in the gap between Heinze and Cannavaro as he has much more pace than the two of them.

To reduce the threat of Robben we have to shift him out wide as if we force inwards like you would to a strong left footed player onto his right, it would negate his strengths however Robben has the quality of jinking past players with his left and turning defenders inside out. Force him wide and get him to cross, our defenders will win the headers before Higuain and Raul.

Sneijder has a tendency to cut in more often than not into his favoured central position, it might be worth allowing Riera to stick to the touchline more than he has done over the past couple of games. Riera can get at Ramos although Ramos is a lot quicker. Ramos sometimes does panic in one on one situations against wingers, if Riera gets past him once, don't be surprised to see him swing a leg at Riera. Something for Benitez to look at if we are to reduce their numbers and increase our chances.

It seems a misplaced confidence considering the relative recent form in Europe of both sides.

Seriously who do these guys think they are playing ? Some two bit team !!!

Our record away from home in Europe is impressive I think Madrid are setting themselves up for a very big fall, 3 nil and 5 - 1 over two legs we have not conceded that many goals in ages, cant see Real doing that to us

Come on you Reds let us stuff them tomorrow

Martin Skrtel: Liverpool FC have to fight to beat Real Madrid

Feb 24 2009 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

            Martin Skrtel 200

MARTIN SKRTEL has called on Liverpool to put their weekend disappointment behind them by standing up and being counted on one of European football’s biggest stages.

The Reds take on Real Madrid tomorrow at the Bernabeu and Skrtel believes there are few better arenas in football for Liverpool to show they have what it takes to compete for honours this season.

The Slovakian defender knows Sunday’s draw at home to Manchester City has put a dent in Liverpool’s Premier League hopes but he insists how they react to their weekend setback is now the most important thing.

“Man City is in the past now and there is nothing we can do to change what happened in that game,” said the 24-year-old.

“All we can do now is focus on the next match and in this case it is Real Madrid in the Champions League so it is good that we have such a big game to concentrate on.

“Everyone was disappointed on Sunday because we really wanted to win that game but we have to put it behind us and look ahead to Real Madrid because that is a very important game for us.

“Real are in good form and they had a good victory at the weekend but we have a good record in Europe and now we have to respond in the right way.”

Liverpool’s Premier League hopes have been written off in some quarters following Sunday’s 1-1 draw but Skrtel remains adamant that they are still chasing trophy success on two fronts, at home and abroad.

He added: “We are seven points behind Man United in the Premier League now but there are still a lot of games to be played between now and the end of the season.

“We will continue to give everything we have got to try and get the results we need in both the Premier League and the Champions League and then we will see what happens.

“The character of the team is good. We have been behind in many games this season and have managed to come back to win now we have to show that kind of character again.”

As expected, Steven Gerrard is in Liverpool’s travelling party which flew to Madrid today but Daniel Agger has again missed out due to a back injury picked up on international duty with Denmark.

Rafa Benitez will now wait until the last possible moment before naming his squad in the hope that his captain will be fit enough to start against the Spanish giants.

The Reds boss said: “Gerrard will travel and Agger has a problem – everyone else is fit.

“Agger will not travel because of an injury to his back.”

l Meanwhile, Real's Portuguese defender Pepe is expecting a close contest.

"It is a European classic and I think that it will be interesting for us to see where we are," the centre-half said in Marca.

"I think Liverpool will come here to defend and we will have to be very focused on not losing the ball while keeping the pressure high and not allowing their best players any space.”

              Benitez going for the jugular
by Alex Livie , 24 February 2009 [Setanta]

Rafa Benitez has insisted Liverpool will be targeting victory in the first leg of their Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The last 16 encounter has thrown together two clubs with proud European histories and anticipation is high ahead of The Reds’ trip to the Bernabeu.

And while Real are riding the crest of a wave at present, Liverpool’s form has dipped markedly in recent weeks.

Recent form would point to Real dominating, but Benitez insists his side will be playing for victory in the first leg.

"I knew it could be difficult when the draw took place because they were a good team - and now they have improved from two months ago,” Benitez told the club’s official website.

"Juande Ramos is doing well. They are winning games in a row and so have more confidence.

"Defensively they have improved. Some players who were injured are back. Signing Lassana Diarra means they have two midfielders who can defend more, so they are more solid.

"But football is football - that's what a famous Spanish manager always said. This sentence is very famous in Spain and it's true. Anything can happen in a game.

"We want to score and we want to win. Sometimes a draw is good but we will go to win."

                Fighting talk from Rafa.

Good to see he's going to go for it tomorrow night.

Real's major weakness, Robben apart, is a lack of pace in their side. I think that's something Torres could exploit.

Real Madrid are showing themselves to be a right bunch of arrogant pricks. Their President has said they will 'soak' us 3 nil

Cannot wait to watch this game and I am now absolutely positive Rafa will add a famous win in the Bernabaeu to his CV. Bring it on!!

Nobody expected us to go for it at the Nou Camp but we went there and we attacked them from the first minute. It shocked them and we got the victory.

Hopefully we will do the same tomorrow because whilst Madrid are on form now, its the same defence who still have the same weaknesses that just have not been exploited the last couple of months

                          Not sure about scores tbh.

But I get the feeling we have lost out on no.19, but wil win no.6.
Which of course means putting Madrid in their place.

Shame about Agger. We could have done with his composure tonight.

think it goes without saying we'll play counter-attack, but it was the speed of it that undid Barca so let's hope we do the same and put some pressure on their defence
