    Souness - legend!

    Amazing player in his day.

Despite the knocks he has had in recent years from some LFC fans he is still a fan of our great club.

I know he spoke to the rag, but he is and always will be a true Liverpool legend.

BTW - does anyone remember seeing a highlight where he was playing against us (i think he was playing for 'boro) - he has a bit of a midfield hardman tussle with Jimmy Case (?) and ends up grabbing him by the throat, sitting on his chest and threatening him with a fist? Does anyone else know what I am talking about? Tell me I am not mad, please!

His analysis on RTE and Sky is always honest. I am glad he is not one of these bitter ex-reds who want to have a go at the manager all the time and talk about how things were in their day. Take note - Whelan, Houghton etc...
Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

I tell ya what lads, you're lucky you're mostly uk based, because you'd be shocked at how strongly Ronnie Whelan pans us on Irish t.v.

      Unbelievably strong criticism.

He keeps on with the mantra that the fans at anfield are not happy with Benitez.

Full of **** at one point he said "I don't go to Anfield much because I find them boring to watch", then within minutes felt his apparent few visits to anfield allowed him to say "The fans at anfield often leave saying "ok we won but it was terrible to watch"

As one of my heroes as a kid, being from Dublin myself, I get really angry listening to him

Your sanity remains intact. It was my first game in the Kop, FA Cup 1/4 Final v Boro in 1977 (3 days after the St Etienne game). Souness and Case went bang at it and Souness ended up on top of him for a while, but was quickly manhandled away. For what it's worth, my money would be on Jimbo.

Although Souness is one of the few pundits to talk sense and despite being the seconnd greatest player I ever saw in a red shirt, part of me still struggles to forgive him for the business with that paper. As he himself has admitted, he should have resigned at the time.

He is a Man Utd fan after all...................so he fits in very well with RTE's anti-Liverpool agenda.

In his auto biog IIRC he said as he was in scotland at the time he wasn't fully aware as the paper ran a different story
Likewise his PR/agent should of been the one to advise, for starters he was having an op
It was a gaff and he gave the money to charity
The thing is he realised afterwards and admits it.
He also states that certain ex Liverpool players were ghost writing for the **n at the same time.

I think he's one of the best pundits around and seems to talk a lot of sence. Like the fact he was off his seat when we scored.

Joe Cole also mentioned how great Anfield was.
Sure he said when he moved to west ham, he would like to play for us sometime.

He blatantly admitted to being a Liverpool fan, the hairy bollock (Richard Keys) even mentioned how Souness celebrated the Yossi goal.

Also i remember when he was manager at Newcastle how when they were playing us at Anfield as he exited the tunnel he touched the 'This is Anfield' sign.

What a shame he was such a **** manager for us.
              We come not to play.

Souey was class last night - really showed his true colours and is clearly falling back in love with club (if he ever fell out of love at some point). A genuine legend, unlike some of the other ex-players who seem to revel in our occasional misfortunes (Lawro, Beglin and Whelan take a bow).

Not sure if that excuse stands up, to be honest. Look at this (2nd post down):

I do have a certain amount of time for Souness, but he made a monumental balls up and compounded it by allegedly lying about his prior knowledge.

He may well have been set up to an extent with regard to the timing of the publication. Thing is, you expect that from such an odious ****rag. You wouldn't expect the manager of Liverpool to be similarly duplicitous and unsensitive.

Souness is a hard case for me to wrap my head around. He was a fabulous player for us, I loved watching him, idealised him. But he a an fXXXXXX awful manager, and contributed hugely to the club's decline from the glory days, plus the Scum thing. There's a lot to forgive post-playing career.

To be honest, I've no idea. But he does seem genuine enough going by his posts.

I'm sure Souness regrets the whole business and would do things differently if he had the chance. And I do still quite like the guy. But it would have been nice if he'd got involved with the HFSG or HJC, if only to offer his unreserved support and unconditional apologies. As far as I'm aware, that's not happened.

Is it my imagination or has he had his ears pinned back in the last few years. They looked much more sticky out when he was playing.
