    Eternal Optimism (Not Wholly Unfeasible)

Should we beat both Middlesborough and Sunderland and the Mancs somehow conspire to lose against Newcastle, we could go into the game against United knowing a win would put us top by two points (albeit they would still have a game in hand).

Our title aspirations could rest in the North East. The Geordies have already drawn away in Manchester, so let us pray.

Yep, still light at the end of the tunnel. Need to win these 2 games and hope Newcastle manage another draw against the scum. Then its onwards to old trafford

The scum cunts are bound to slip up somewhere, they keep sneaking one nil's so they're bound to come unstuck at some point.

I can't see it happening at Newcastle though I'm afraid. Newcastle are dross and Utd always hammer them at St James.

All we can do is keep believing that they'll **** up somehow.

There's nothing happening at the moment to suggest this will happen. As regards ourselves, however, don't let yet another fantastic result in Europe cloud the fact that we continue to be a soft draw and a cushy point for ****e teams in the league.

We will drop more league points than United between now and the end of the season, you can take that to the bank.

It's all about Europe again, the only arena where Rafa's methods really, genuinely work.

Newcastle are the only team to have taken anything from Old Trafford this season so its possible regardless of how bad they are most of the time

I agree in that we are soft in the league but we will get better. I'm not going to give up some hope that Utd will mess up though.

If we don't think positive about it then we all may as well give up now.

Fingers crossed. I am optimistic that both City and Arsenal can take points off Utd. It is just down to us to make sure we are still there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Villa still have to go to Old Trafford too.

Unfortunately, their hard games arent til right near the end - by which point, it'll probably be already over.

I know you shouldn't give up hope til it's mathematically impossible, but for me, the league is over. For this season at least. We had one of our best chances in many years but it hasn't worked out. Next year we will have a resurgent Chelsea to worry about if they hang on to Hiddink.

no way am i conceding **** all to that shower. make them win it. one draw even and they could wobble yet. i still dont feel that we've even hit a vein of form yet this season, we're due a run of (convincing) results and they are due to screw up.

There's no way United are going to continue on this run till the end of the season. They are going to slip up and lose points. We need to go on a winning run now.
