    fifa ruling

dont know has this been discussed here before but saw this on the times website
"The big guns in the Barclays Premier League would struggle to field teams that would be eligible under FIFA's proposed '6+5' scheme.
If the rule is passed, teams would be forced to name in their starting line-ups six players who are eligible to play for the national team of the club's country.

FIFA are fighting to get the rule approved after an independent report declared it did not breach European Union law.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have not made the proposed alloocation in any league game this season. In fact, since Theo Walcott's injury, Arsenal have selected an entire team of non-English players.
Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher fly the flag for Liverpool with John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and long-term injury Joe Cole Chelsea's English quartet."

As E.U. law stand, and FIFA can't do a thing about it, the proposal can not come into effect. They may be able to put some curbs on non-E.U. players but thanks to their Spanish and Portuguese connection most of our South American players will be O.K. Haha Platini.

I don't think the idea is without its merits. I wouldn't go as far as 6 but three or four in all competitions would be a good idea in principle. Under such a rule I feel Darby and Spearing would have had the chances they've deserved this season.

Saying that though it would mean a price hike in an already inflated English market.

Who wrote this "independent report"? Fifa can't push the clubs around as the matter will get litigated for sure. Besides Platini is upset as the French league 1 is not on par with it's English, Spanish, Italian and German counterparts.

              Cannot see this rule happening

Also, Real on started the match against us with 3 spaniards in their team.
