    expectation

if we hadnt been top i wouldnt be so disappointed
if basically we hadnt thrown the league away the same

anything after being 5 points clear is difficult to be positieve about but should we really be having a go for "just" relying on winning the CL ?

well yeah - we have made imo an average despite what the press say - team like the scum look world beaters

they could win the league by 15 or more points and yet some will still say
" well we put up a fight"

that is bollocks we are not in march and our challenge has gone again
i want more and i dont want to hear the ****e about lack of money - that has been proved wrong

personally i would love rafa to win the league - but he wont
i think that if we finish 3rd or miles behind we need a change
its not something i am proud of saying but its true

but come what may liverpool fc are my team and if you want to come on forums saying i dont support them cos we lost or i cant support them because of rafa etc you make me feel sick and obviously it doesnt mean that much to you

when you walk thro a storm.....

i suggest some on here learn the words and take them in

you support the greatest club in the world so have a go yeah but make it constructive or follow someone else

    we are LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB
the most successful english club ever

That's a piece from an article in one of tomorrow's papers, it make sad reading but it's all true. Lets be honest Liverpool FC is a mess at the minute and some major changes need to be made this summer, otherwise we'll continue they way we are at the minute - nearly men.

Ignore the papers they set their agenda and work into every editorial. Enjoy watching Gerrard; Alonso; Torres; Carra...you will be telling your kids about them one day.

I'm sure they'll enjoy telling their kids about their constant mediocre seasons.

Yes...if they, like you, have a frontal labotomy.

Alternatively Gerrard may mention headed goals that turned Istanbul 2005 final in our favour; or a 30 yard pile driver that won the cup and so on...

The good is there. By all means be constructively critical, but don't succomb totally to the negativity.

The fact is utd aren' t average, they are far better than any other team in the league. Our squad is good enough for a 3rd place finish but we're 4 or 5 top playerd away from being better than them. We won't get them so we won't win next year either. Surely you must have got used to supporting 'also rans' by now. We're doing ok.

If the order of matches was different we may never have been top and a 3rd or possibly even 2nd place finish is decent by our standards. If you want to support title winners, redcafe is probably the best shot. Just the way it is and not worth getting annoyed about. We can hope we can beat the odds but we shouldn't believe it's going to happen if we want to be realistic.

Can't really argue with that myself. Sadly I have to say my faith in the manager, and some of the players too I might add, has waned somewhat the last couple of months. I always thought we were outsiders for the title this season, even when we were top, but there's going down fighting and going out like a damp squib, and we're doing the latter. Every team in the league feels they have a real shot against us right now, and that is not right for any Liverpool side.

It started as far back as the Spurs game way back in November was it, when we dominated them for 60 minutes, couldn't score a second then lost at the death. From that point on we've never really looked, with the exception of 2 games at Christmas, like we believed we could just finish a team off.

I still wouldn't put it past us to do something mental and win the CL, but we look as far away from having a team capable of doing the business consistently in the league as ever. In anybody's book, the collection of players we have on the pitch is now consistently under-performing in terms of the football played and in terms of results, and that's not good enough.

However, the stuff about not supporting the team anymore etc is just rubbish. Jesus, more than 25k turn up at Elland road every week to watch Leeds play the likes of Hereford, despite what's happened to them the last 5 years, because they love their club, and real fans support a team through the best and the worst times. That support doesn't have to be blind positivity, they can criticise managers, or players or owners, or formations and tactics, but they do it because they care, and would never stop caring about their club whatever happens to it. I find it pretty pathetic in that context that when we "just" get knocked out of a title race and play a bit of **** footy some of our fanbase wants to give up altogether

                          Expectation.

We have to manage our expectations better. In terms of our revenue, stadium size etc, we have no divine right to win the title. Yes we're Liverpool FC but the game has changed - it's mainly about money. We can't compete with United and Chelsea on that front and so we are where we should be, in 3rd. Our squad has been assembled less expensively than either of those two. Rafa is edging us nearer to a title challenge (this has been more of a surrender than a challenge) and has us competing for the European Cup every single season. Cast your minds back to where we were under Houllier - lucky to be in the CL never mind challenging for it every year. Sacking Rafa would put us back to square one.

Yes he has his faults and some of them show no sign of being corrected, but I shudder to think where we'd be without him and I for one, after a good night's sleep, would be happy for us to continue under his stewardship and being one of the most feared teams in Europe. We must manage our expectations better, rather than blindly demanding the title every season.

I have deliberately avoided posting since the game because I knew I might regret what I said because I was fuming like many others here.

Anyhow, having cooled down, the way I see it we really needed another top notch international class goalscorer this season. Keane should have been that player but did not make it for whatever reason.

Almost every time we have ****ed up this season is due IMO to the fact that we miss too many simple chances. Once again yesterday we could easily have been 3 nil up before Boro scored. Even when they scored we had more than enough clear chances to equalise.

We are just ****e in front of goal right now. Without Torres we lack that edge and it just frustrates the life out of me seeing us miss chance after chance after chance...

I still believe in Rafa and I honestly believe if he can get another world class striker in for next season we will mount a far more sustained and hostile assault on the title. Trust me, this team is so close it would be a tragic step back to change Managers and have to go through another rebuilding process.

Is it really better thd devil you know...?

I'm seriously doubting Rafa's ability to win the title, i believe with this same group of players and a more attaking minded coach we'd be much closes to winning the league.
                              We come not to play.
