My god that is horrific (if true) I don't expect us to pay £30 million for a player every season but surely we can sort a payment schedule and Alves for 8m ****ing hell.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

There were also rumours that we had a shot at David Villa pre Euro 2008 and Parry took too long to sort a deal out.

rafa is responsible for every player bought. he tells the board who he wants and then negotiating starts. it's not as though parry went out and bought players he liked. rafa told him who he wanted. the slow deals etc.... are prob blamed on parry but i dont beleive for a second all the rumours about ronaldo, simao, villa etc... are true.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

I believe a list of players rank in priority was given to parry and we could only get players at the lowest like david ngog, lucas, or even robbie keane.

This is true. Its there in black and white in Geds autobiography. We had the Ronaldo deal done, Parry ****ed about for a couple of weeks, Ged thought we had him signed for £6mill, the Mancs came in after the couple of weeks, bid £12mill and had it completed within a day. Ged found out about it when he saw it on the Sports news on the telly.

Funnily enough, I've been having this exact discussion on YNWA.

The Alves thing, we bid £8mill in Jan 06. Del Nido told us he wanted £12mill. Comes the summer and we make three more bids, with the highest being £10mill. Del Nido keeps saying, no the price is £12mill. This is the last bid we make, mid June.

Just like the Barry bollocks. We want their star player, they tell us how much, Parry ****s about over a period of a few weeks offering a little bit more, but never getting close. You can't do that when you are trying to buy top players to improve our team and its cost us again and again.

Six weeks later, 25 July, we bid £3.5mill for Pennant and get ****ed off. The next day we sign him up for £8mill. You're allowed to cry at this point. 18 August, same window, we sign Dirk.

Twelve months later both Chelsea and Real offer over £20mill, but he ends up going to Barca for 35mill Euros.

Del Nido quotes (both from Summer 2006):

Daniel Alves’ transfer to Liverpool looks to be off after the two sides failed to agree a fee for the Brazilian full back - “we demanded a specific figure from day one and Alves will not leave for a penny less than this amount”, revealed del Nido.

They wanted £12mill, our final bid was £10mill.
"We're 15% away from reaching agreement in terms of what we want and what they are offering. Negotiations halted on Monday. This makes me happy," Del Nido said.

Vidic had a buy out clause which we bid. Parry ****ed about for three weeks, in came the Mancs and bid it also and had him signed up in a couple of days. Massive shame that, Much as I love Danny and Martin, Vidic is hte best CB in England and possibly Europe.

It's all too easy to make Parry the scapegoat. There's much more to the various sagas than you read on here, I'm sure

Yeah we heard those rumours just like missing out on Ronaldo. We had no money and Parry was holding the purse.

If Rafa asks for Villa and the board says "no you can only have Bellamy", how is Rafa responsable?
The fact is, Rafa has been after some world class players and gotten very few of them. Why that is we don´t really know, but it sure as hell has not been a lack of willingness on his part.

If Rafa has not had all the power when it comes to transfers, he should not take all the blame.

rafa has never asked for villa......unless you have some insider information. villa has said he doesn't want to come to england anyway. also, rafa would have also asked the board for bellamy as well and that is why we got him.....beacuse he was available unlike villa.

Well a man in the pub (an actor who has been in Midsommer no less) told me that his sources in the club told him Keane was Parry's buy. Fankly, who knows what the truth is. We can say for certain that Rafa hasn't got all the targets he has wanted - but then has any manager ever been able to say that (all my United supporting mates still bitch about them not getting Ronaldinho when he went to Barca). From the outside it is pretty much impossible to say what really went on - I suspect that there are more shades of grey here than are often made out.

First of all, I said "if" Rafa asks for Villa.

Second, do you have insider info that tells you he did not ask for Villa?

The point is that Rafa has not gotten his first choice targets often enough, and that is not his fault.

Him and Thommo thought we had Ronaldo signed for £6mill. For some reason Parry didn't finish it off, waited a couple of weeks, then Ged and Thomo, thinking we had signed him, saw he had signed for the Mancs for £12mill on Sky Sports, no less.
