Three left backs in the squad today and not one of them considered capable enough to play on the right? Surely one of them must be able to use their right foot as well.

We need a clinical striker so that we don't rely so heavily on Torres. We need wingers of the Barnes/Houghton level. Assuming Insua continues to develop, we need a right back. Arbeloa is decent but I think we need better if we are to overtake the Mancs and Chelski.

Goal scoring wide men a creative forward and a goal scorer who wont mind playing second fiddle to Fernando.

Wide men - someone like Maxi Rodriguez. Always weighs in with his fair share of goals. Important that they can stretch the play as well by taking on the full back instead of cutting inside all the ****ing time a la Dirk Kuyt. In a perfect world - Ribery.

Creative forward. Classic number 10 who could be deployed out wide or off Torres. An Aguero / Messi / Robinho / Kaka type. Easier said than done. In a perfect world David Silva. Arshavin would have been a nice option for us too.

Goal scorer who has something of a proven record and can deal with not being first choice striker in a side that normally plays 1 up front. Owen would seem a good candidate but he could be **** up front on his own and would probably be a right cunt if he was left out of the side for too long. Tough one this. Shame we couldnt keep hold of Crouch. Zaki perhaps?

As others have said, Babel, Kuyt, Dossena, Benayoun, Riera, Deggen and Lucas can all be sold without the team losing much.

If as most seem to think we've buggered the title up what do we need to do improve our chances next season?
Who do we need to buy?
What tactics to employ?
Money permitting how do we get near the Scum?

Ultimately I feel two things have hurt us this season:

1/ Seemingly random defensive errors - although a number have come in the air from set pieces. Another factor has been giving away freekicks when it hasn't been necessary.

2/ Lack of goal threats

The former I think we largely have the tools to fix. The problem is partly a lack of consistent leadership on the pitch, all of our big guns have been guilty at times of allowing games to drift or letting the team loose their intensity.

The defensive problems would be helped by solving the second problem to a degree. Uniteds defence is as good as it is in part because teams are afraid of their attack and thus the team are allowed to play where they want to play more often.

In an ideal world I think we need to add at least one consistent goal threat to our first choice team. A number of players (Kuyt, Benayoun) can help out on so we may only need one first teamer but we do need a couple added to the squad. Ideally I'd like to see options that give us genuinely different tactical alternatives. I'd prefer a pacy wide player and a targetman style forward.

Something could be added to the team by a more attacking rightback who could cross. I like Arbeloa a lot but he has some limitations and a change there could allow other parts of the team to be upgraded more easily.

Other than a forward to take Torres place if injured I really think that it is the first time in a long while where I could hand on heart say that I really think incremental upgrades in rather than world class performers would make a huge difference.
