    Shambolic thread.

A net spend of 79m (or just shy of 16m per season) would indicate he's done fantastic to make up ground on the chavs and mancs to me.

Excluding players he sold because he didn't purchase them is absolute bollocks, unless you're also going to exclude players he purchased to replace the players he sold too.

Didn't we used to have this circular discussion with Sarb all the time?

Judging by how much money he got back with some of Ged's duds, we must give Rafa a medal just for that! Do you learn how to treat figures like that at University?

Not arsed about looking at values etc, it's all inaccurate bollocks, Looking at the turds in there is more interesting.

Josemi, Morientes, Carson, Sissoko, Bellamy, Paletta, Pennant, Kuyt, Lucas, Leto, Babel, Dossena, N'Gog, Keane.

Now that's almost 50% turd. A good turd return compared to other managers, I don't know.

                  Yeah, great thread...
Thats where the comparison comes in.

Fair enough, it might have been a bad point to all Benitez lovers but my point is that more often than not Benitez has made some expensive mistakes at the club considering we don't have as much inflationary pressure at City or Chelsea have. Out of those signings - which ones are currently at the club? This was my point in another thread about staff turnover, its incredibly high which doesn't half destablise the teams balance and consistency. United have had a settled team over the past four or more years. Fergie found it hard to make something out of pretty much the same pool of talent a few years ago and contemplated retirement because Chelsea were just so strong.

What I am calling for Benitez to be more shrewd in his signings because you simply don't sell a player, even at a profit, for the sake of it. You sell them either of their contracts or they don't perform.

The matter of which signings have been successful is up to you for debate.

I agree with you there but i would say of Wenger his first 5 years bared the following fruits:
1997-98 FA Carling Premiership Champions & FA Cup Winners
                    1998-99 FA Carling Premiership runners-up
1999-00 UEFA Cup runners-up, FA Cup Winners & FA Carling Premiership runners-up
                    2000-01 FA Carling Premiership runners-up & FA Cup runners-up
2001-02 Barclaycard Premiership Champions & FA Cup Winners

Now I would like to point out that I am not a Rafa out fan.

Getting back to the list as I said only 13 of the 27 are worthy of our great clubs shirt but 3 of those have left. That leaves 14 not worthy and the worrying thing is that 8 of them are still with us although 2 are out on loan.

I would add in Benayoun (not a turd but not good enough for LFC) and possibly Cavalieri (although I think I am being a bit harsh here).

                          A few things

                          1) Rafa has spend a lot of money over hauling an entire squad almost, compared to what the Mancs, Chavs etc have spent fine tuning.

                          2) Some/many of Rafa's signing have been poor, on the plus side on the whole if they're crap he shows them the door unlike old Houllier who would persevere even if its way obvious it's not working.

                          3) Some of the post on this thread are shambolic, just because it's Joe King arguing you get various crap - no argument just attack, people jumping on attack the anti rafa posters - Mods included!

Full details of these figures are never publicly disclosed e.g. how payments are staggered, wages, signing on fees etc.

Take for instance Michael Ballack. If you were to include Chelsea in your list he'd show up as a free signing. Yet he probably received a 7 figure signing on fee and is on ridiculous wages too.

Like I said its flawed at the best of times. But you didnt even bother to put in net spent, so it made it all the more ridiculous. Thats all I meant.
