1 more thing, why do you think that because a player hasn't been an 'unquestionable success' that makes them a failure?

No, i acknowledge that there's such a thing as a 'work in progress'.Originally posted by rudedog View Post1 more thing, why do you think that because a player hasn't been an 'unquestionable success' that makes them a failure?
The question is about who has been an undoubted success though, and as such, a work in progress isnt one.

Mate, FFS we still have more than a quarter of the season to go and you have that defeatist attitude.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostStronger to what effect though?
2 years ago we were failing to challenge properly for the title and finishing 3rd or 4th.
This season, we're failing to challenge properly for the title and will most likely finish 3rd or 4th.
Also, 2 years ago we did not have Torres, so we are stronger.

I would certainly have to ask what ratio of players signed we should be expecting to be 'unquestionable successes' within 2 years of signing when these include freebies, cheapos and players that have barely had any game time. I don't think these kind of stats are much use at all.Originally posted by rudedog View Post1 more thing, why do you think that because a player hasn't been an 'unquestionable success' that makes them a failure?
That said, if I was Rafa I would certainly have looked to sign fewer players for more money per player. In the first 2/3 seasons it was understandable, but we really should be at the point by now where only a small number of first team signings is made per window. The turnover is too high IMO.Like blood on iron

They're first team squad signings, with the presumed ability to perform in the first team, cheapos or not.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostI would certainly have to ask what ratio of players signed we should be expecting to be 'unquestionable successes' within 2 years of signing when these include freebies, cheapos and players that have barely had any game time. You agree with my overall point though

Point being, this ratio is skewed heavily by them and as a result it is a poor indicator of value for money. I agree with a lot of the points you made, but I don't think your attempts to 'prove' your argument holds much water. People will probably end up arguing with your 'proof' instead of debating the points, which would be much more interesting.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThey're first team squad signings, with the presumed ability to perform in the first team, cheapos or not.

I agree also, but right now I do not think it warrants yet another attack on Rafa, especially given we still have 30 points to play for.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostI agree, but I think the real question is, are we as strong as we should be given the net spend of the last two years? For me, the waters are a little muddier on that one.

I dont see why questioning an aspect of Rafa's management is an 'attack'.Originally posted by Tee View PostI agree also, but right now I do not think it warrants yet another attack on Rafa, especially given we still have 30 points to play for.

It implies that either you agree with everything he's done, or you're attacking him. Surely that's a bit over the top.

craig sounds like one of the other so called fans that slag rafas transfers off yea hes made a few **** ups but most managers do they just resolve them fasterOriginally posted by Craig_H View Post
Does that add weight to the 'quantity over quality' criticism or not?
Worrying ratio, given the money spent?
jamie redknapp was the same the other night saying about liverpools huge transfers we had only spent about £20 million more than we had brought in
when u consider theres 3 players in the starting 11 that cost us over that £20 million u cant argue

Try and open your mind a bit beyond the "rafa is always right or you're not a fan" mantra.Originally posted by manno1 View Postcraig sounds like one of the other so called fans that slag rafas transfers off yea hes made a few **** ups but most managers do they just resolve them faster

Why persist with the same points again Craig, are you bored? You're just varying around the same theme. It's getting tedious to say the least.
