BRING ME SUNSHINE ...
According to Julie Myerson's bong-and-tell expose of her son's addiction to cannabis, the potent version of the drug leads to a complete lack of goals and extreme defensiveness. In completely unrelated news, Big Cup returns tonight with two games that will have backers of under 2.5 goals shaking their moneymaker like Max Clifford after he's whispered three of the most lucrative words in the English language - "Jade Goody exclusive" - to a red-top editor: Liverpool v Real Madrid and Juventus v Chelsea.
Liverpool welcome Madrid with a 1-0 lead and a decision to make: stick or twist. Although their manager Rafa Benitez seems to want to do both - with a 16-inch steel blade - to the club's owners. "The messages on this are not the best," whined Benitez, about the lack of funds at his disposal. "It is not easy to be in the position we are in Europe. Thanks to this we can improve the squad and the club a little bit. I have my own ideas but maybe people don't realise how well we have done in [Big Cup]." Victory tonight for Liverpool isn't guaranteed - and a lot may depend on how Fernando Torres, Alvaro Arbeloa and Yossi Benayoun respond to a topical application of Fiery Jack Rubbing Ointment.
Meanwhile in Italy, Claudio Ranieri is in fighting mood. "I would not say we have an inferiority complex," the Juventus manager harrumphed, arms moving faster than a Turin traffic policeman during rush-hour, when pressed. "If there is any inferiority complex at all, then it is about having less money, but that is not a complex but a circumstance," he added, while trying to calculate Pavel Nedved and Alessandro Del Piero's combined age (127). "Chelsea are now back to being the war machine that was created with a lot of money." Not that Guus Hiddink is counting Chelsea's quarter-final place ... yet. "At this level it's tight. Our game at Stamford Bridge was tight. This will be too," he drawled, as the Fiver rushed to put the family silver on a goalless draw.
