Benitez better than Shanks and Fergie?

Should Liverpool take all three points, Benitez will become the third fastest manager in Liverpool’s history to clock up 100 league wins.

The clash is his 181st in charge and only legendary duo Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish can boast a better record.

Dalglish’s 100th victory came in his 167th game, while Paisley’s arrived in his 179th.

Bill Shankly is currently third on the list with 100 wins coming in 184 games.

United manager Alex Ferguson took 231 matches to arrive at his ton.

Not bad for a team that has poor owners.

Not a very fair mark to be honest.

Shankly basically built this great club, almost from scratch, so of course it took him longer. The greatest manager of all time

Paisley and Dalglish both took over a rampant Liverpool and should have got there much quicker.

I could defend Fergie too but **** him.

Far too arbitrary a mark to be applied unqualified across the board.

Almost as bad and biased an attempt at pro as half the anti Rafa stuff, just on the other end of the scale

      Sorry I don't buy that.

Don't buy what? The statistic which seems quite likely or the title of teh thread which I'm guessing is tongue in cheek.

I think it is a very good achievement given that the two above him had superior teams to the rest of the league and we are often accused of drawing too much under Rafa.

Don't forget teams only got 2 points for a win in those days.

            League wins not points.

The stats are great but lets not forget, Shankly took over and built this club to what it is from the lower levels of the second division.
That is greatness for you, forget your jock stein, matt busby et al.

I think you mean that with 2 points for a win, a draw was more valuable in those days, as it was in effect half a win, instead of the third which it is now, right?

Doesn't excuse Fergie though. Although having to rebuild after Ron Atkinson is always gonna be a big ask.

Better than the great Shanks? He may well be on his way but the yard stick for comparison is success over time. I would not bet against him.

Comparisons of Shankly are unfair as we were in the second division when he came in and he built us up into the club we've become

Paisley and Dalglish inherited great teams so not taking anything away from them, but I think this demonstrates how difficult the game has become; that they won league titles in that time and Rafa has a better record but hasn't really come close (yet)
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

In fairness to Rafa as well he came in and had a pretty piss poor squad. He also came in at a time when there were 3 teams of a lot more quality than us in the league.

Rafa has done brilliant to get us were we are right now and i congratulate him on reaching 100 league wins with a 4-1 thrashing of the manc scum!!!!
