Fleet Street`s Reaction To ManYoo`s Humiliation
Along with the rest of the country, Fleet Street is in a state of shock after Liverpool's incredible 4-1 win at Old Trafford...
'United weren't just beaten here. They were outsmarted, outmuscled, outpaced, subjected to the kind of rout they routinely inflict on the rest of the Premier League,' declares The Telegraph on Sunday's Jim White. 'When Andrea Dossena chipped Edwin van der Sar to score the visitor's fourth in injury time, United's fortress echoed to the clack of emptying seats, a noise that almost drowned out the delirious cackle emanating from the Liverpool followers of "we want five".'
'So who says the title, and a clean sweep of all the honours, is a shoo-in for Manchester United now?' asks The Sunday Times' Joe Lovejoy. 'After humiliating Real Madrid in midweek, Liverpool scored four again at Old Trafford yesterday and, to borrow Sir Alex Ferguson's memorable phrase, it really is "squeaky bum time" for United now.'
'It may take even more than this to stop the Manchester United juggernaut, but Rafa Benitez's Merseyside scallies yesterday inflicted a nasty enough dent to require remedial work by Sir Alex Ferguson. His team are still four points clear of Liverpool, with an away game at Wigan in hand, and should the champions go on, as must still be expected, to retain their title, United's manager may look back on this as a useful corrective to the sort of complacency he has never tolerated,' argues The Independent on Sunday's Steven Tongue.
Paul Hayward, writing in The Observer, claims to have seen the seeds of United's slump on Wednesday night:
'Against Internazionale in midweek, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs took a managerial rocket for their profligacy with the ball. Surrendering possession is a felony here and United were guilty of it often enough against Italy's champions to suggest that a rampant run of victories was drawing to a close.'
Of Saturday's game, he concludes: 'To the neutral it felt as if a remorseless machine had been halted, if only for a few days, and that Liverpool have recovered their poise after a couple of months of creeping neurosis. The title race became a test of character again instead of a procession.'
Colleague Andy Hunter, meanwhile, muses on what might have been for Liverpool: 'Fernando Torres's suspect hamstrings are not an excuse for Liverpool squandering the initiative in the title race. They are, as Rafael Benítez is so fond of stating, a fact. And Anfield would harbour more than an outside chance of becoming home to the Premier League title had they remained intact this season.'
It's a point repeated by Jonathan Northcroft in The Sunday Times.
'Liverpool's problem has been not getting their fearsome twosome on the field together often enough. Injuries have blighted Torres' campaign in particular and yesterday was only the ninth time in this season's Premier League that the pair have started a game together. Their side's record in those matches reads won six, drawn three, lost none and the two have scored 12 goals - Torres eight, Gerrard four.
'Benitez might be in charge of a team leading the league rather than - for all yesterday's efforts - one chasing a familiar foe had he been able to use the tandem more often.'
'Fact: Fernando Torres is the finest striker in world football on current form,' announces The Independent on Sunday's Ian Herbert. 'Torres is an individual whose display will live long in the memory here, with United's own failed pursuit of the player before Benitez picked up the telephone and drew on his nationality to hire him in the summer of 2007 just another reason for despair'.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Splendid performance. Everyone on the pitch (possibly except Reina and Riera) in a grey shirt enhanced their reputation. We thrashed them and deserved it.
Aurelio and Lucas were superb and haven't been given the credit they deserve. Coming on without preparation Hyypia showed why he is a true legend. Totally wonderful day

Can't answer. I saw the game and still can't believe it. I'm going to see it again... and again.. and....Originally posted by lickedlollipop View Postam i dreaming or we actually won 4:1 ?!
p.s. i couldn't watch the game due to my bro wedding
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.
Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

... I agree with the point thoughThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think Aurelio's been given plenty of credit. On Sky earlier I saw Ollie Holt being asked which of our players would get in the United side (
)...Gerrard and Torres were proffered as gimmes, and Holt said "Fabio Aurelio would get in their side".

He's often given praise for his use of the ball but he OWNED Ronaldo yesterday. He's one of the best full-backs in Europe. Shame on the muppets who slag him off. "Slowrelio" FFS. I have a 'Red' mate who thinks he's ****. Get your coats lads. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Typical Scummers- missus left the hairdressers yesterday just after the match in central Scumland to find 2 of em singing "96 wasnt enough" at one of our supporters. She told them to "shut the **** up" & drove the car right at them, so they ran off.
****ing amazing game, have no voice now, but i'll enjoy a few comments to all the Scum at work tomorrow as well as wearing me scarf in the city centre.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Simply superb, best performance of the season. Better than the Madrid performance, because it was a harder game, against a better team and away from home.
The combination of organisation, composure and controlled attacking threat was unstoppable. Even their peno wasnt the right decision.
Apart from Riera, who was poor, and Reina who looked edgy, everyone was superb.
Hyypia was untouchable, simply amazing. Torres is injured and still ripped them to shreds and Stevie - you finally stepped upto the plate against the mancs.
Carra did what he needed to at RB and Aurelio was flawless at LB.
Lucas did what he needed to do. No requirement to do much going forward, just sat in his position and did the simple stuff. Mascher was a little terrier and Kuyt worked hard, kept the ball and gave us an option on the right.
Above all, Rafa got it 100% right and deserves plenty of credit for outclassing the mancs and outsmarting Mr Drunken Cunt.
We have to ensure we just keep winning. That will have planted a seed of doubt in the arseholes' minds and IF Fulham suddenly realise there's no need to roll over for the mancs next weekend (and we beat Villa), it might start to get interesting.

2 fantastic little quotesOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostGo on Dion!

Torres, at last approaching full fitness, has a terrifying cocktail of honesty and bewitching skill, aided by an assassin's temperament.
The opinion-formers in the English game have never warmed to him for the simple reason that he has little time for their opinions.
