benayoun has looked quite good since real. if he can continue his form i'd be a happy camper. i used to groan when benitez brought him on, but lately he's been playing like he wants that shirt.

i think he ticks a lot of boxes though. family and money issues aside, assuming he came back he'd probably recognize his place on the bench and come on as needed. he's sort of a specialist. not always needed, but could be handy. our bech lacks flair despite n'gogs antics against real. if he keeps doing that, i'll gladly eat my words.

also nobody has named another player who would be happy to be a substitute and provide that extra bit of the unexpected when we look out of ideas.

Ngog didn't play against Real mate. It's all down to money. Obviously someone like Aguero would be ideal but there would have to be a takeover before the summer if we are to compete for players who cost as much as he would. Otherwise it's up to the scouts to find us some gems on the cheap.

Aye, I think the hype that came with them was a bit much to be fair. As young lads they should have been brought in on the quiet, taking some of the pressure away. They certainly weren't what we were promised although as you say Pongolle was a fair player in the end.

It was the glut of substandard foreigners that GH brought in over the last couple of years that really did the damage. Add the overhype of those 2 to the "Big Three" (Doof, Dork & Cheyrou) and then Traore too & it makes me shudder.

His problem was that like Benitez most his signings come from his home country. However whilst Spain is a strong league that Rafa can tap in too, France was and still is a poor league - meaning that even the most successfull of players could not guarantee success in the English league.

There was one club in France who tended to take all the best talent (Lyon) and yet we never bought a player of them. We signed players with no experience of being tested in Europes top competitions and as such were unable to see the real quality of the players we signed.
