If Dossena shows signs of developing into the player Rafa though he was buying, Insua is back in the reserves. We are not gonna sell Insua any time soon so the most logical thing to do is get him some first team experience on loan, if indeed Rafa sees Dossena and Fabio and his first choice players.

If Rafa has any doubts over Dossena for next year we should get rid and let Insua step up and challenge Aurelio.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Whether starting or from the bench I think that Dossena has shown enough to be considered as a temporary solution to that.
It's certainly worth trying him out in that position from the start, seems daft not to considering we don't have an in-form left sided midfielder at the moment. He seems better going forward than defending, but he has obviously some defensive qualities and could be as effective on the left as Kuyt is on the right. Dossena looks a lot fitter than he was at the start of the season.

I don't buy into the fact that Riera is so out of form that a LB or indeed a LWB should be put in ahead of him. Indeed if I was so hacked of with Rieras form would at first look to put Ryan Babel there who was more than capable against Real Madrid in the week.

I certainley would not look to destroy the confidence of both Riera and Babel by starting a full back ahead of them. Especially when the said full back has not really done anything to warrant he deserves the starting place.

All I can say is Rafa sees the players in training and if Dossena shows he is capable then fair enough. But at present it's not enough for me. We should all remember that had Dossena not scored the two goals he would not even be discussed as a candidate. And as I said the two goals did not come about due to a bit of wing wizardry they came about due to being fresh against teams who were embarrassed and out on their feet.

        ----------------

And I don't mean to take anything away form Dossena. Two good finishes, one close to Iker and unsavable, the other a dream finish. Happy for the lad after all the stick he has had.

If we are going to keep with Kuyt on the right definitely think a speedy and tricky left winger should be priority in the summer would add some urgency into our attavking play

Not if Insua has developed better than Rafa had hoped. I think it is more than fair to say that Rafa did not think Insua was at the level required to be a first team regular. I think for certain that Insua will have changed his mind. We will see in the coming weeks who Rafa sees has the best short term future at the club.

Aurelio will not play every game at LB as we come into playing twice a week and whoever gets the nod out of Insua and Dossena will likely be the one who is still here next season.

Personally I would bring in a speedy RW to provide a completely different option to Dirk. All about finding a suitable one though.

That was sort of my point. I can’t see all three players still fighting for the one place (or Insua going back to reserves) next year. The two most probable outcomes are that Dossena goes back to Italy or Insua goes out on loan.

It’s gonna be down to the players to see which is the outcome.

Or Dossena will play mostly Left Midfield, which seeing that he was a wing back at Udinese will probably suit him better.

I don’t think he will. Maybe a few more appearances this year, but certainly not long term for reasons already discussed.

Be more concerned with RB TBH- Degen is made of snow & Arbs seems to be inheriting his flimsiness. Also, a real attacking pacy tricky RB would be able to overlap Kuyt, who is a great player but limited in the type of threat he offers & would be good at covering.

Good to see Doss progressing tho. would give him another saeason.
                      3rd place. Worst champions ever.
