    Daggers Back!!

I think he is a fabulous player and hopefully we can keep him for many years to come.

The Reds boss revealed that the Denmark international has now resumed full training following a back problem and could be in contention for a place in the squad for Sunday's clash at home to Aston Villa.

"Daniel is back in training," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Hopefully he will be available for the weekend but it depends on the doctor and whether he thinks it's a risk or not.

"Having Agger available again will be a big boost. When we play at home especially he is a player who can play good passes and is a threat in front of goal.

"We have missed him but hopefully he will now be available for the rest of the season."

Benitez also hinted that Alvaro Arbeloa should be fit to return against Villa but warned that the clash could be too soon for Xabi Alonso.

"Arbeloa trained today," he said. "It was a light training session but I think he'll be okay for Villa.

"It will be more difficult for Xabi Alonso. He was training but only with the physios.

"At the moment we are only definitely without Yossi Benayoun and Philipp Degen so it's very good for us that most of the players are fit because it means we can change them when we need to."

Rafa picks up on a very important point about Agger being able to offer us a bit more in home games, especially with his ability to play the ball out from the back.

I don't think it will as big an issue against Villa as it is against the likes of Stoke.

Villa will play their normal style of football and are unlikley to just sit deep with 10 men behins the ball.

It is tho good news to have a player of his ability available for selection again.

Both have their merits, but Agger complements Carra better, is a more complete player & definitely gives us more dimension in attack. We're very lucky to have both.

Watching Sami play against the Scum I noticed how good his distribution is to midfield or the forwards. His passing is hard and accurate, a bit like Agger's. JC's passes are often hit with backspin and are more lofted, making them mostly 50:50 balls.

I think this season Skrtel has been better than Agger actually. That said I think that Agger coming out from the back can give us and extra dimension and speed up our attacks. Too often at home we have laboured on the way the opposition half or resorted to the long ball, against packed defenses both are bad tactics.

A bit controversial but here goes.... we are developing as a team and now find ourselves in far better possession of the ball, especially at home.

Carra is a fantastic defender, one of the best, but my take on it is that he is brilliant when we are in games with our backs to the wall. What I mean is Carra is an out and out defender, the guy would rather die than let the attacking team score.

However, IMO the tide is turning and as a team we are now in far greater control of games, with more of the ball, therefore I feel it is time to start looking more at the Agger/Skrtel partnership because that is where the future is.

We need CBs who can play the ball out and start the play from the back rather than just launch it forward. Also, with CBs who can play the CMs would not need to drop so deep to always take the ball from them...

.. or maybe not.... **** it, stick with Carra for now.

I don't think Agger has got anywhere near the level of performance he was putting in before his injuries, he has effectively missed most of 2 seasons now so it's difficult to come back and get back to your best straight away.
Hopefully he can stay injury free, sign a new contract and perform for years

The thing is that the tactic is better against better teams like United who commit defenders forward - against the likes of Stoke it's just never going to end well.

Carra is streets ahead of both in my opinion. At times he looks like the only one defending. He is the leader and organiser at the back, provides a link to the crowd and club and is always the one who makes the last ditch tackle that saves our bacon.
                              Forwards.......
