    Pellegrino

i'm curious as to what the word on the street is about this guy. one minute he pops up out of nowhere as the worst centre-half the club has seen this decade, the next minute he's got a haircut and he's writing **** on the dry-erase board for substitutes.

i could see how he could be a liability with the senior players, but also good at bridging the gap between the gaffer and the players.

what are YOUR thoughts on him, est 1892?

Cant make too much comment without more fachts, but rafa trusts him, so that'll do.

Cant expect a manager to succeed without letting him choose his staff etc.

well not sure he would be viewed as a liability, he didnt do well at liverpool but he has won a couple of spanish titles and was obviously a great player in his day. he did coach at valencia before he came to liverpool onto the coaching staff and many people credited him with helping the zonal marking system at liverpool

        Never use that word again

Don't think we can judge him on his Liverpool playing career, as before that he was a very good player

Heard that he picked up some loser's medals from the Milan dressing room to give to lads that didn't get a medal

As Craig said if Rafa trusts him that's good enough for me. He certainly knows his zonal **** by the looks of it and seems to sort all of the set-pieces. He occasionally shouts stuff from the touchline but he seems too softly spoken for anyone to hear

He was initially brought in as a player because he understood Rafa's system of playing and defending as a team, set-pieces etc therefore he was required to helf put it into practice in training.

Now he is back developing as a coach and obviously Rafa thinks he is helping our defence and has a good future in this department

i'm not judging him by his liverpool career, just thought that the players who were around back then just might....

the main reason i'm asking is that from my experience, people in the pool know a lot more about the side than gets reported. we all know about rafa, and we all know about sammy, but i've never really heard much about pellegrino.

I know it's been mentioned, but I read the Balague book, and when I read the bit about him going to Milans dressing room to pick up medals for the guys that didn't get medals, it stuck in my mind. A very nice touch.
tbh, I think the senior players would respect this.
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

If they don't respect someone who played at the top level for Valencia and Argentina then they need their heads testing.

After that initial bit comes whether or not he can coach. And as Rafa likes the guy I'm guessing he can. So I'm guessing that the lad gets plenty of respect.
                      Forwards.......

Pellegrino wasnt really bought to play alot.

He was bought in to help teach the zonal system and also the few times he played he allowed sami to have a rest which contributed to the good season that he had.

wasn't he called Rafa's on the pitch general.

His legs were gone when he came to us, but I saw it more as someone to show on the pitch what to do.

Aside from his immense defensive experience (he was one of the very best before he came to Liverpool) he sorts out the barbeques. Don't underestimate his future role. Summer will be very important for him.

Yep - helped sort out the zonal defence that means we concede far less goals from corners and free-kicks than most other teams. Has a wealth of experience and completely understands Rafa's methods, which makes him a great asset to the coaching staff.

And I'm not so sure about him being the worst centre back for a decade either. Surely Traore and Biscan gave him a run for his money for that claim? And when did we get rid of Frode Kippe? He's a definite contender though, you could turn an oil tanker quicker by the time he played for us.
