Don't agree with that mate. I think as the games go by Gerrard is getting better and better at judging when he should drop in, support the first striker or make a run past him.

And striker encapsulates much more than 'leading the line' and scoring goals nowadays. Torres leads the line, that's his main quality, then he scores goals also.

He hasn't got a position really, he has a free role with license to go anywhere.

I noticed for the first time v Villa that he doesn't bother tracking back anymore and saves his energy for when he is on the attack, just like a striker.

Having said that he does still get stuck in from his position further up the pitch and I guess when required he can drop back. If I had to give him any position I would say Attacking Midfielder, just like Kaka at AC Milan.

The bonus of Gerrard is that he offers "Total football", as when Dirk Kuyt came inside v Villa and had a go Gerrard just switched to the right and covered Kuyt. He did this and is capable of doing so with any position on the pitch. He is just immense.
          Forwards.......

its a free role he exploits teams weaknesses. he is like a horrible virus, search and destroy.

I imagine if we were plaing a quality team like Barca he would be more in midfield yet against the likes of Villa he can create havoc as they just cant cope!!

I actually brick it at the thought that he will one day be gone.

How far into Kenny’s LFC career was he crowned ‘King’?

When exactly did Fowler qualify for heavenly status?

How many games had Billy played when we became ‘Lidellpool’?

Does anyone believe Gerrard may be in line for a similar honour if he lifts No.19 (and more) or will he be forever remembered as Stevie G – great player?

It’s hard to imagine where we might be today without Stevie.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think he's our greatest player, better than Kenny.

Fowler was the most naturally gifted striker we ever had. He was sold at 26 whilst his career went into a downward spiral. Stevie G has consistently been our best player, and by a mile for the best part of 6/7 years now, which is immense at this level. And he isn't finished yet.

                    Stevie is the new king.

I'd rather wait til Stevie has won at least one league title, before i rank him above Kenny.

I agree. The game IMO is also played at a higher level than it was when Kenny was around and Stevie has also played at that top level for 6 to 7 years. Immense and definately a living legend. Proud to call him a red.

I disagree. It will be the icing on the cake but I dont think he needs to win one to be classed/ranked above kenny. I think he already should be.

Got to agree with the cop out that is the attacking midfielder/forward.
Striker makes me think of someone leading the line and finishing off moves like your rush, linekers and shearer. I think you need the term striker for this established type of player.

In fact players like Gerrard don't need a category!

Whilst i wouldnt call him a striker he is most definitely a forward. He cannot any longer be described as a central midfielder, i think he's only played there 3 or 4 times this season.

And he should definitely play in a forward role for England as theyve hardly got anyone decent to play there.

This isn't anything related to how great he is. He's also dependent on playing in a great team and he's been the one standing out for a long time in ours, until Rafa came, created a better team and gave him a new lease of life in terms of his position / tactical awareness etc ...

Independently on if he wins a league title or not, for me he's our greatest player of all time. Kenny came into a stable team, one which was dominating the english game. He only had to showcase his talents.

His talents would be wasted in a more discipline role.
