I know we all have it as goal difference, but that is the sort of thing which forces teams to make errors. For instance, it could mean that instead of being able to settle for a draw a team would have to go for a win, and end up losing a game.

With this in mind, it probably will not come down to goal difference, and it is likely a team will have it wrapped up prior to that.

I genuinely believe that even if we miss out this season the experience will spur the players onto new heights next season. With the right additions this summer, and I include Gareth Barry in that (but not at the expense of Xabi), we will win the title next year.

This team is just going to get better whereas Utd will still need to rebuild with teh likes of Neville, Scholes, Giggs etc coming to teh end of their careers. Similarly for the Chavs, they have a genuinely ageing team, so IMO all is not lost if we miss out this year.

I will be gutted because it still feels so close and with a bit of luck we may still sneak it, but looking at the bigger picture heartens me.

At the expense of Lucas, surely.

I would think so. Barry was absolutely superb yesterday, imperious almost. But for a couple of dodgy moments I would go so far as to say that is one of the best midfield performances I have seen this season.

Arsenal hold the key I think but to go to the last game as a decider would be a nightmare.

Us at home against Spurs and them away to Hull.

How different things may have been IF ONLY.

                    Fulham-Home 0-0
                    Hull-Home 2-2
                    Stoke-Home/Away 0-0
                    Wigan-Away 1-1
                    Boro- Away 0-2

                    .

Depending where we were on the table. Top on last day and all we need is a win. Second and United need a draw or some ****e, that would be pisstaking.

But if I'm honest, I would say we have to win everyone as I reckon the Mancs will likely only drop 4 more points.
I can see us gettin 4 or 5 goals at WBA and Hull, who cant win at home, nor win full stop. Will do wonders for our goal difference.

Considering we need to win every game and need them to **** up twice, with only 8 opportunities for it to happen (so they need to **** up a quarter of their games), i'd happily take a final day scenario with everything still to play for.

I wonder how you'd have felt about that final day title-decider scenario if asked back in august.
