    Diao 'keen' on Stoke

No doubt we'd still probably pay the majority of his wages...

He's here for the duration, isnt he?

He's on anything between an estimated £40-50k a week. I doubt Stoke would pay a tenth of his wages...

Still, at least it will give Rafa one less selection headache for central midfield....

No wonder it's been imposssible moving him on. I'm asking some serious questions about the management of the club if they put him on that wage, I mean in France he couldn't have been earning more than a fifth of that.

I'd had it down as about £30k to be honest. If it's as much as £50k or even £40k, then that's shocking.

Over the past 4 years, he's had about £8m off us.

Well Houlier was in charge, are you surprised?

Nope, not surprised at all I'm sorry to say.

I just wonder how it is decided what wage to offer the player - do the board decide or is the manager?

****e, yeah you're spot on. I was thinking (for some reason) of about £500k p/year. Dunno why.

Left the vorderman maths skills at home today, clearly...

Comparatively what would he have been earning in France?

No wonder Houllier is much maligned - brings a player in from France and decides to increase his wages about 17-fold.

Houllier bought him as the "new" Vieira, therefore the board probably thought we had a monster player on their hands, plus it was the summer of 2002 when many contracts and fees were inflated, it's not too hard to imagine offering a 5 year, £40k a week contract....Sadly

Well, it's still the same Houllier who picked up Sami for £2.5m, Henchoz for around £3m, Gary Mac on a free, Riise for £5m and Didi for £8m....among a few others.

He really fecked it up towards the end, but he certainly wasnt WHOLLY useless in the market. Just when he spent big...
