MASCHERANO - Spoken like a True Captain

    MASCHERANO FIGHTS TO THE END

JAVIER Mascherano has warned Liverpool not to believe the hype about their tradition of finishing strongly.

The Reds are counting on their usual end-of-season upturn in form to help them overhaul Manchester United in the title race.

But Argentina midfielder Mascherano reckons it would be crazy to think Liverpool will continue to rack up the big wins just because it has happened in the past.

Liverpool were unbeaten in their final seven Premier League games of last season taking 17 points out of 21 – form which could win them the title this season.

But Mascherano said: “In the last few years Liverpool have been a better side in the closing stages of the season than in the opening stages.

“If we can do that again this year then we have a chance of making this an exceptional season.

“But just because in the past we have done well, it doesn’t mean anything in the present.

“Your reputation is important but that doesn’t win you games.”

He added “You only win games by being the best team on the pitch and try your best all the time.”

I'm not sure i'd have Mascherano as skipper, personally.

In 5 years, it'd be more feasible, yeah.

I'd like to see a good few years of no gobby-ness to refs, before i'd hand over an armband to him.

Saying that but it doesn't seem to hurt JT. That ****** seems to get away with it more.

He was awesome on Saturday night against Venezuela. If that's how he plays with a captain's armband on, i'd have no qualms about giving it to him whenever Stevie is not on the pitch.

He's been getting better and better and the weeks pass. Only saving grace is it's the home leg and he'll be back to defend our three goal lead at the Bridge.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's a fantastic player, and I love everything about him. What people forget is that he's still relatively young; his gobbyness needs to be eradicated or at least reduced, but it's not the end of the world if it isn't. Players such as Rooney and Terry have that as part of their game.

The guy is world class, and the best in the world in his position. Love him.
