Seems like yesterday watching those clips.

Every young footie fan should watch clips of Barnes in his pomp, make them realise what a wonderful football player he really was.

Was that actually the Goal of the season comp for all the teams in the league or just one for the Liverpool goals?

As I remember it, that was the only Goal of the Season competition they ran that year. As a tribute to the quality of our performances and the number of great goals we scored.

Looking back, you can only imagine how peeved United fans would have been seeing that. Which sort of makes it even more enjoyable.

We had Barnes and Beardsley...and people felt safe enough to send their full name and address on a postcard, without fear of identity theft.
