Regarding ownership, I just want the issued sorted this summer for better or for worse. Whilst I would like Hicks out, if he stays and gets the stadium built, as well as providing squad funding then I don't think we can argue.

To be fair to him, all his initial ideas probably went down the plug hole due to the downturn in the market and the weakening of the US dollar.
    Forwards.......

I have a hunch he will to raise some funds. And if Barry comes, it'll be as good as he's an excellent replacement. I've been impressed with Barry over the past two seasons and he's been able to cement a place under Capello; that's a fantastic achievement and he's only playing for Aston Villa.

But Alonso has been great for us this season, so it will be sad to see him go.

End of last season I wasnt against him being sold for the right price as he seemed off the pace. But hes been comfortably one of our top performers this year. No way I want him to leave, unless we are talking stupid, stupid money.

He stated he thinks its cos Barry will cost 8m and we can sell Xabi for 20 thus adding to the transfer pot which will help in possible pursuits of Eto'o or Villa. Plus Barry is another English man in the squad.

If we sell Xabi and end up with either of those 2 could live with it
We could sell Xabi for 20m because he's an absolutely quality player and I'd be gutted to lose arguably our best player of the season. But I guess that's a debate for another time/thread.

            Great news about Stevie though.

Bull****. You've never been an Alonso fan anyway.

Barry's barely fit to lace Alonso's boots, when did Barry last control the tempo of a game and play the ball about like Alonso does?

I like Gaz Baz, but he's nowhere near 'as good' as Alonso.

The reason we could get £20m for Alonso is that he's class.

The reason Villa quoted us £18m for Barry is that he's english and it was a 'stupid' price that Villa knew nobody in their right mind would pay. It was done to put us off.

                They're worlds apart.

I've been a massive Alonso fan since his first season when he was fabulous. Then his standards dropped (albeit because of injuries) and he was below par if not **** last season. That is why Rafa, of all people, wanted to ship him out in exchange for Barry.

Barry's come in leaps and bounds and he's an excellent retainer of a football. He doesn't take much risks and doesn't offer much more of a threat compared to Xabi, but he's an excellent player. I'll be delighted if we keep Xabi but I have a real hunch Rafa's going to ship him out. There's been no mention of him being offered a new contract, whilst they've been giving them away like 'confetti's'.

Alonso's probably not had a new deal because his current one has more than a year still to run.

As for you, you spent a good deal of time slagging Alonso off, so i'm unsurprised that you want to hound him out of the club.

Alonso has been fantastic this season, but for the two years previously he was well below-par. Last summer, I would have considered the Barry In, Alonso Out deal a good one.

I'd be very, very sad to see Alonso leave, but if reports are true and Barry is done for £8m and we can get upwards of £20m for Alonso then maybe that would be better for the team in general.

Come on mate, don't be stupid. 'Hounding him out' , that is plain ridiculous. He was poor last season, so poor that I never thought he'd go back to how good he was. Credit to him, he's had a great season and long may it continue.

As for his deal running for longer than one year, that would probably be tempting to sell him now, if ever Rafa want to bring Barry in. And for £8m, Barry in and Alonso out (whose stock value has increased this season - cementing his place in Spain's first 11 too), then surely that must be a good deal. A bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss.

Hmmm...maybe it highlights the point i was actually making then, about terminology people use when posters make criticisms of players.

Some posters would never 'hound' any player, but others apparently 'slag them off' - in actual fact, criticism is criticism - whatever label people choose to use for it.

I didn't slag him off. He was poor last year end of. Much like you think Lucas was crap for all his time at the club, Alonso was as crap, if not crappier than him last season.
