    Mvp

Well. Like many of you on here I'm pretty shell shocked at how we ended up on the end of a 1 - 3 thrashing from Chelsea. Everytime they went forward in the second half they looked like scoring. Gerrard was neutralised by Essien and we didn't have a real sniff at goal in the second half at all... but of course I am stating the obvious.

So... we have Blackburn and one of Rafa's early nemesis managers comes to town and I'm sure Big Sam is relishing this match now even more...

So to my MVP - and did we miss him last night. The rock that the team in my opinion should be build around. Don't get me wrong Steven Gerrard is an immense talent and I agree with Zidane that he is the best most complete player in the world. But he got played out of the match last night by Essien.

Mascherano was sorely missed in our defensive midfield - and Lucas didn't cut it last night... and when Dossena came on... I thought (like some of you maybe?) that he would provide a greater attacking threat on the left hand side... especially after his recent performances.. but he was shocking... and there was a cross field pass to him that he couldn't even control and take down!!! A TOTAL SHOCKER!!! So... I'm still unconvinced by him...

    Personally I'd go 3 - 5 - 2 against Chelsea.

    GK - Reina
    LCB - Agger
    CCB - Carra
    RCB - Skrtel

    LMF - Riera
    CMF - Alonso
    CMF - Gerrard
    CMF - Mascherano
    RMF - Babel

    CF - Kuyt
    CF - Torres

IMO - this formation would allow key players to shift position during the match Babel and Kuyt could swap during the match to pull theyre players around the park to create space. Also... when they attack we'd have Alonso and Mascherano who can look to take the sting out of any play through the middle... The wide player would need to be tracking back and act as cover to the 3 CB's.

If I remember we played 3 - 5 - 2 against Newcastle when Glenn Roeder was manager and we totally dominated the match...

I know its a long shot. I like you am as sick as a parrot today.

But we've been here before. We all know how we turned around Olympiakos and then AC Milan. Nothing is Impossible. We have the players. We have the Manager. But yesterday we we're beaten by the better team. Now the players need to play for the shirt.

I believe. And I hope the majority of you do as well.

Like I said anything is possible.

Riera was a huge let down also last night. Really had a shocker. Coupled with Fabio having a shocker it is no wonder we looked awful down the left-hand side.

I think we need to just add Mascher (and drop Lucas) back to the team and take it from there.

Yep, it was a poor performance last night but the team has been playing well prior to that - no need to rock the boat too much just yet.

Play our strongest team again. The players work in the formation and it's taken teams apart in recent weeks, I don't think now is the time to panic and start making whole sale changes to the way we play.

I like 3-5-2 as a system but I don't think Riera and Babel are defensively disciplined enough to play that system. I think Aurelio is suited to it and even Arbeloa on the other side, but not enough to excel at it I'm afraid.
The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions to me; the distinction is yours to draw...

i agree with bringing mascher back in instead of lucas and i cant see how aurelio could have a worse game so i think we will be better in that sense but what dissapointed me most was the total lack of ideas from arbeloa. he ran forward all the time and demanded the ball which is great to see but then the only thing he could do was stop and pas it back to xabi. ok some of the time it was down to lack of options but not always. he never took a player on which you could say is sensible as he would be out of position when he lost it but the development of his attacking play including crossing of the ball which has been developing recently was abslutely shocking last night
            in january we were doomed.

in august we will rise from the ashes of ****e and march on again

I don't mean to be picky but actually I seem to remember he did take on a player (Cole) in the second half and ran into him, leaving the ball behind, so Cole started a counter-attack with Arbeloa well out of position. Of course it just reinforces that Arbeloa is far from great going forward.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

                Ha, the yanks are coming!

Masch was missed but he hasn't had an outstanding season, he'll make a bit of difference but the whole team needs to get engaged if we're going to overturn this!

The formation and the quality of player was not what was wrong last night, and any suggestion of bringing Babel in to face Chelsea is ridiculous.
Our main problem last night was the constant losing of possession. And people want to bring BABEL in when we're chasing three goals??? Please.
I'd be tempted to swap one of Kuyt or Riera for Benayoun, and obviously bring in Mascherano for Lucas, but other than that, I don't see how bringing in inferior players is going to aid an already difficult task.
