    odd yes?

Barcelona are still keen on Blackburn captain Lucas Neill. (Daily Mirror)

    I guess he's a good defender, that's cheap....though he's hardly the glamour signing you'd expect from Barca.

I presume he would be bought in as a good value, solid, international player, to offer cover for the big boys. (similar to the position he finds himself in with Liverpool's interest).

I've never rated Puyol though - and he's their best defender!

Neill does a job, and does it well.

I dont get this Barca standard stuff.
What about LFC standard? Do players have to be of a higher quality to play for them?.
It seems to me, we have argueably a greater tradition than them.

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

puyol is much better imo, and he is their leader as well, and with turam curently with them they don't need neil, the have better cb's and rb's...

There's no "arguably" about it. We have a much greater tradition than them. They've only played in the Spanish League for a matter of decades, playing in a Catalan league beforehand - and how many times have they been European champions - once? Can't remember but it's way behind us.

Think they have won it twice mate.
But yes, I would have though we had a far greater tradition, especially where Europe is concerned.

They are interested because Neeskens is now the assistant manager to Rijkaard at Barca.

Neeskens was assistant to Hiddink at the WC, and as soon as he went to Barca they were linked with Neill. He was very highly regarded by Hiddink

Barcelona is a glamourous club though, and have had some of the world's greatest players (something which Liverpool obviously also have.) So all this, we are bigger/better/more famous then them is a little futile.

Real Madrid & Barcelona are the most famous clubs in Spain, fact.

If Rafa or Frank R think that Lucas Neill could perform a specifc role for their team, then I'm sure he's a decent player.
