He seems pretty pissed off for some reason and def the worst I have heard, although I wish lawro would stop predicting 2-0 wins for scum and chavs and a draw for us, seems to be most weeks. is it me or does the oder he get, the more he sounds like Mavis from Corrie?

Whelan goes to town on the team every week he is on, even when we beat the scum he wasnt 'convinced', he hates the way the team plays, isnt convinced about Rafa as a manager...

Last week he said they never used zonal when he played and 'we won plenty of championships' (which he usually mentions at least twice a nite), something that Alan Hansesn clearly disagrees with:

He is a proper knob, just ignore him.
I like to lurk, if that's ok with you

          whelan is an idiot.

why can the likes of dalglish, rush, barnes etc see the positives in the work rafa's done and be both positive and negative. why can't he? go on ronnie, just one bit of supportive praise for your old club. the one you love so much.

whelan is constantly negative. why is that? are we really that bad? no one else seems to think so. what's his problem/agenda then? does he have a problem with spaniards?

until he drops this negative agenda, i'll stand by my own opinion thanks very much whatever sh1te you spout at me.

Certainly no one I know over here has an issue with Whelan- and I would hate the thought of him getting anything less than a great reception at Anfield.
Dude, Ronnie was one of my favourite ever players, the guy is a legend for what he achieved in his time at the club.

However, recently as a commentator on Irish tv he has absolutely been unbelievably negative about everything to do with our club, in the last few months I have quite often had the unfortunate privilege of watching our games on Setanta Ireland and some of the things he says are frankly unbelievable. To the extent that in a straight comparison I would call Andy Gray pro-Liverpool. Not just being critical of Rafa or tactics, which has at times been fair enough, but some of the things he has said about many of the players have been pretty disrespectful, not to mention outright wrong - some of his comments about Mascher being a case in point. Now I don't hold with people outright abusing him, but having specifically paid attention to his comments since this thread on here 6 months ago, I can now see far more than I could before why some do.

to be fair, its almost 3 years since we last won a trophy... probably fair to say we're not THAT good!

I'm being a bit tongue in cheek, but I do like trophies.

fair do's, good point well made. But he's still less annoying than Dave Whelan, and a better player than Noel Whelan.

                    Exactly.

Ronnie the player - legend, great servant.

Whelan the 'pundit' - disrespectful moron who appears to have something against Benitez. I wouldn't mind him criticising some things if he was balanced and gave credit where it's due - but he doesn't. Not ever. He's as bad as McMahon and Houghton. Just because they were great servants and highly decorated heroes, they do not have a divine right to talk utter ****ing bollocks about us now. I will defend LFC and our manager against anyone talking ****, and that includes ex-players.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

ok i was a little harsh and as a former great he does deserve a little more respect.

however in my view, he completely devalues all of this respect by showing zero loyalty. he's no longer the same hero in my eyes and whilst the 'w' word is wrong, if it was a manc ex player, we'd all be spitting feathers and calling him all the names under the sun. since whelan is an ex red, does it make him saying this sh1t better or worse than a non-ex red saying it? I think the latter personally. he should know better and should have some sense of loyalty to the club that made him and gave him everything he has.

we all like trophies. but you can see we're very close to the top of the european game now. are we in the top 10 teams in europe (overall so including league performances)? certainly, probably top 5 now without being biased. that is absolutely massive progress given the finances, ceo transfer blunders and general upheaval at the top of the club. time will tell if this years league performance is a one off but rafa has been taking this club back to the top and thats why he and the players deserve a little more respect from this middle of the road pundit and no mark manager (cypriot league apart of course...). He's made his bed as far as im concerned. Same goes for all ex players that needlessly stick the boot in to the current manger/players. they can all eff off.

fair do's, i see where you're coming from- i came in on the bounce coz i had read that most recent comment by him, which doesn't even mention benitez as such.

and while i take your point that it would look like in the league we have made progression, on this season's evidence... and while some of your mitigating points about money and owners etc i do agree with... you cant deny benitez has been blessed with two natural home grown superstars, been bought the best striker in the world, had the money to bring in big money players like kuyt, mascherano, etc etc

there is a point at which youve got to say that needs to translate into trophies... my worry is that as the team becomes more and more in benitez's image, the few trophies we win or seem close to winning. believe me i dont want to be negative, i have no beef with benitez, but it does concern me that certain players' golden years may be behind them and we never made hay while that sun shone. so on that level i have to agree with whelan.... although i dont know what the **** else he's said on irish telly

we won the CL and the fa cup fair enough and have prioritised getting far in the CL in order to earn money - to buy the likes of torres and masher. are you saying if we'd won the FA cup last season you'd be completely happy as its a trophy? we're going after the big one.

im not as worried as some but its a slow burning project to build a dynasty and any cup successes are a bonus. we're not doing a blackburn, we're building something great like shankly/paisley and ferguson have done which should bring us sustained success in the big competitions. thats what we all want surely.

its a shame this "dynasty" is only possibly about to start when Carragher is the wrong side of 30, Gerrard is 29...

why do I mention them? They are the last two youth players we have created of any ****ing note. Over ten years we've had an academy and we have created... STEPHEN WARNOCK.

Dynstasties are based on a combination of local youth talent coming through and players brought in externally... a la Busby, Ferguson's teams... and to a lesser degree our sides of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

funny, I have noted Andy Gray definitely thawing towards us, perhaps he feels he needs to in order to keep up his long running arselicking of the league winners, no matter who they are or who they did it.
