When I originally thought of this thread I really had that Dalglish side in mind. Which rules sort of explains why I didn't think of some of the names mentioned - even if later I accepted I probably should include them. I still think that there might be something in the fact that so many of that team Barnes, Aldridge, Staunton etc. have tried and failed to make a mark as managers at a high level.

I quite like Souness punditry. Theres no doubt that Danny Murphy is good though, he will be ok after he retires, that said hes clever enough to make a good manager if he so wishes. I like Murphy.

I've been saying for ages that of all the current/ex players, Murphy is the best managerial prospect. There's something about him that just screems that out.

I think Danny said that when he moved to Charlton, he went to Spurs from there.

Perhaps Dalglish's team are all as thick as a brick? Good footballers but surely not the brightest

Can somebody please explain how David Pleat who hasn't done anything of note since getting cautioned for kerb crawling circa 1987 is even still in a job??

Redknapp - ****s me off with his 'Stevie won't like that' and 'Frank is class in e' comments
Macmanaman - Is bland for a pundit, would have thought he would have something different to add but him and Sherwood are terrible.
Souness - Always quite liked him, direct and will speak his opinion

To be fair I can't be arsed to go on, they are all pretty rubbish and don't add anything, happy to spew uneducated drivel about rotation or zonal marking etc...

Pleat is a genius. To stop Liverpool winning, Chelsea had to stop Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres. I wish I could have seen that.

In the post Damned United, Clough revival it’s been jaw dropping to watch his TV punditry from 20 or 30 years ago. The choicest was the 1986 Itv coverage of England v Morocco in Mexico. Mick Channon wadded in with the plodding analysis that ‘England’s problem is an inability to get by people, to get bodies in the box. The Brazilians do it. The Argentineans do it. The Danes do it.”
Clough just out of shot “Even educated fleas do it,”

                                Genius.
