Is playing Gerrard such a good idea?

As it's going to be very difficult to overcome the 3-1 first leg defeat & our next league game is at home to Arsenal which I think is FAR more important than tonight's game. If Stevie G were to get injured & be out of the Arsenal match, the implications could be a lot worse - can u imagine if the Scum dropped some points & it all comes down to us not beating ATsenal becuase our skipper was injured?
Don't get me wrong, I would love to go through against Chelski tonight but I think we would have a much better chance on winning the league if we only had that 1 trophy to worry about, whereas the Scum would have 3 to worry about (assuming they beat Neverton & Porto).
Furthermore we have had enough miracles in recent seasons so the chances of us repeating another one are slim to none - I just don't want us to kill ourselves trying to beat Chelski & end up dropping points against Arsenal because of it.
    Thoughts?
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

We need to win so he must play. Easy decision. 1 week to rest after the game

It is not a massive risk if we use him.

If we lose a player for 10 to 14 days it will be bad but would only affect one game. It's a calculated risk.

We've been written off but with Steven and Fernando Torres together on the pitch we have a good chance.
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I don't think Gerrard will play tonight. Rafa wouldn't show his hand this early in the build up to the game. He wants them to prepare for our formation with Gerrard behind Torres....although i could just be over analysing all of this!

If Gerrard plays then i would be tempted to play him on the right side of a 4-4-2 with Yossi in for Riera on the left and Dirk up top with Torres.

I would start with Gerrard and Torres but change it to

                    .........Torres...Babel
                    Rierra......................Gerrard
                    .........Alonso..Mascher

if Gerrard was being marked out of the game.

Playing with out Terry, Babel and Torres could really give them a hard time.

so you would raise the white flag now? not playing gerrard is a clear indication we dont believe we can win would give chelsea massive confidence and they could end up thumping us again

IMO Gerrard should play if fit. I would not take any risk with him for this game.

Or it's a clear indication that we're right in the midst of a title race and have 6 league games which could immortalise the manager and players.

If we are losing with 20 mins to go - bring him off.

If he's fit to play then he plays, if he isn't then he doesn't. it's not ****ing rocket science is it.

If Gerrard starts tonight it's because he is fit enough to start not because we are starting an injured player who is likely to break down and force us to use a sub and hand Chelsea the advantage of watching him trudging off.
Vice versa if he's on the bench it's because he isn't fit enough to start.

                              Pointless discussion really
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
