Not being a local I've never quite got it myself.

Sure, it's great when we do 'em over, but I'm not submerged in the bitterness on a daily basis so it's harder to hate 'em.

And TBH after being reminded in recent coverage of how they responded to Hillsborough when it occurred I have a warm place for them in my heart again.

No matter how much it's degraded that shows what they're truly made of.

From an outsider I'd have to say hearts of gold Liverpool folk, whatever colour shirt they wear.

Ive just changed my Facebook status to match these sentiments, its got to start somewhere. Would love it to go back to how it used to be when I was a kid.

Have to say that as a kid growing up in the 80s our rivalry on the pitch was intense yet I never felt any animosity towrads them. IIRC wasn't there even chants of 'Merseyside Merseyside' at the 86 Cup Final?

A good idea, just hope that they reciprocate the good will.

I am going to support Everton against United on Sunday.

No, I mean, SUPPORT Everton- not cheer AGAINST United, and therefore have to be pleased to be see Everton go through.

There have been a number of olive branches in recent weeks, and I think now maybe the time to do away with the bitterness. I will freely admit that I have been involved in red bitterness- and my outright contempt for aspects of Everton FC I have let cloud my entire judgement. Mates of mine would be disgusted to hear me say this, but I'm sick of it- I've been eaten up with hate for ten years or more- and enough is enough for me.

Yeah they will always have the odd knobhead- or ten outside JR's picking off reds on their todds (or with their birds)... or singing certain songs, cheering an own goal for us like they've just pulled a deepthroater... but so be it. I am giving EFC a fresh start... they're not the enemy, and never have been.

If one good thing can come from the anniversary of that awful day, let it be a return to banter not hatred.

even though i'm not from liverpool, back in the 80's the friendly rivalry between the fans was always obvious for derbies and cup finals especially. it really saddens me to hear and read about the viciousness tht has seemingly crept in.

well in voz kid- hope ya best mate SG supports ya

Couldn't agree more with all this, seeing the Everton banner is actually quite moving and really appreciated.

I remember standing on the kop for derby games in the 80s and about a third of the people would be blues. Nowhere else could this happen. The support was passionate, the banter hilarious and sarcastic but the overwhelming sense was a passion for your own team.

I have always wanted my love for Liverpool to be my drive not the my hatred of anyone else, it is LIVERPOOL FIRST, second doesn't exist (to adapt a Shankly quote)

I was going to support Everton, Id go the semi-final but too expensive just to watch them so you lot want to have a whip round Ill go with my Liverpool kit on.

I hope Everton win that, we win the league, Barca win the Champions league.

I wouldn't mind Arsenal winning the CL. I don't mind 'em too much and I know it'd piss the mancs off if another English team beat 'em to it.

                    Other than that sounds good

Any blues would get a shock walking into here today. Lol.

Reckon you could sit there all day and try to explain this to certain fans from both sides and they wouldnt have it. Its the way its gone and i really dont think its possible (or highly unlikely) football support will revert to being a friendly day out Reds and Blues alike.......unfortunate.
