Alves would be perfect...but there are cheaper alternatives out there so you can be sure that our scouting department have been working overtime!

Note to Scouting dept...any more reports on players like Degen & you will be looking for alternative employment! When a player has a sicknote reputation, you stay well away from now on!
Lahm plays left back, but isn't he right footed?

And if people dislike Drogba's antics, then Alves is just as bad IMO. Cracking player apart from that.

I think it's unfair to suggest Degen had a sicknote reputation. They injury he had just before we signed him was his first serious one I believe.

Carra shouldn't have even been thinking about a difficult pass to a player who was marked in that situation, he should just have hammered it away.

          Fair point

Still think it is harsh to say Carra was more to blame than Arbeloa though. Whatever you make of the pass, it was simple enough for Arbeloa just to move forward and give it back to Carragher. He however waited for the ball to arrive at his feet and that is what lead to us losing possession.

I quite like Johnson although I dont think he falls into the world class category. But he's just signed a new contract hasnt he? And this was after all the speculation that he was coming to us. That will have bumped his price up a fair bit I would have though - and also indicates that he wasn't all that keen on joining us!

Carra should've put his foot through that IMO. It was a bad ball to give Arbeloa.

Sadly Alves should be our right back now. Gutted about missing out on him more than anyone to be honest

Johnson first caught my eye playing against us as a teenager with West Ham. Extremely bold going forward and an excellent dribbler.

He has improved on the defensive side of his game and has been the stand out performer for Portsmouth this year. He will probably be England's right back for the next 5-10 years. I think he would be an excellent addition to our squad if we could secure his services for under 15mm.

For all Glen Johnson's fine form this season, if he comes he will be just as error prone (if not more so) than Arbeloa.

Really can't be doing with Arbeloa. He annoys me every time I see him, either by giving away stupid free kicks, picking up unnecessary bookings, being caught hopelessly out of position, putting in ineffective crosses from a position 30 yards from goal, rarely pushing on to the bye-line or getting beyond the opposing full back, or losing possession cheaply. He's just not the kind of player I have much time for, which is disappointing because after his first few appearances he looked very promising.

As for last night's goal, he showed no awareness whatsoever of what was going on around him. You can't expect to be given that sort of time on the ball when you're 10 yards outside your own penalty area. I've just watched it again and there was really nothing wrong with Carragher's ball to him, he was just completely asleep.

Perhaps I'm being harsh, but I'm feeling fairly unforgiving at the moment, so nah!

However when Arbeloa loses the ball, Carragher is now out of position leaving the big gap for Arshavin to exploit.
Harsh to blame Carragher though really I think.
Arby got stuck in the headlights again. He gets caught out often. Carra wasn't at fault IMO. Arby waited for the ball and got it nicked of his toes. He was far too slow

that may be so...but at least GJ can swing a nice cross in and is a goal threat.

Arby is shocking at crossing the ball. Very weak crosses, that defenders love to see coming in.

Hope he goes back to Spain, he's not good enough, and would fetch a nice fee i reckon (£8m+)

We should be all over Rafinha, he would form a cracking right side partnership with Dirk. He gets to the byline at will
