Arshavin: I wasn't insulting Liverpool fans

Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin insists he wasn't trying to insult Liverpool fans over his goal celebrations at Anfield.

He pressed a finger to the lips, his trademark move, but a gesture which sparked fury when Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho did it during the 2005 Carling Cup final. The Russian also lifted four fingers after his final goal.

"I want to say to the supporters of Liverpool that they made it such a good atmosphere," said Arshavin. "When I scored the fourth I showed a sign to my fans but it was not aimed at Liverpool. I always do that. I just wanted to thank my fans for their support."

Fair enough but wtf is that celebration all about, he even does the shush thing to his own fans
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

If he does in the 90th minute after he scores a winner at the Toilet, I'll forgive him.

Any footballer that comes to Anfield and bangs in 4 goals deserves to celebrate as he wants. Wish rafa had shifted Keane early in jan then Arshavin would be a LFC player now.

His celebration has got to do with a play on his name hasn't it, Arshhhhhhhavin? Nothing to do with disrespecting the opposition a la Mourinho.

No problem with Arshavin, other than the fact that he wears Arsenal red and not Liverpool red. Classy player, much respect to him.

Can't say I felt disrespected by his celebrations. I obviously called him a cunt (or words to that effect), but every opposition scorer gets the same.
                        Forwards.......

Four goals at Anfield. Amazing thing to do. Fair play to the lad, he may as well enjoy it...

                            That goes without saying.
