    Reserves in Cup final action

    Steve Hunter 27 April 2009
    LFC Official Website

Liverpool Reserves are in action tonight when they take on Waterloo Dock in the final of the Senior Cup at Marine FC's Arriva Stadium, College Road, at 7pm BST.

Admission on the night will be £6 for adults and £3 for concessions (under-16s and over 65s), and the match has to be decided on the night with extra-time and penalties if necessary.

Liverpool have won the Senior Cup 32 times in their history and also shared it five times, and Gary Ablett's side are hoping to put things right this year after losing in last year's final to Marine.

Waterloo Dock have just become Liverpool County Premier League champions for the third year in a row and many of their squad are big Reds supporters.

Their manager Jim Davies is the longest serving manager in Britain having formed the team as a 21-year-old back in 1963.

A good crowd is expected at Marine tonight and Ablett is taking nothing for granted.

"It would be nice to end the season with a trophy but it will be a tough game," Ablett told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Waterloo Dock have done really well and we have to match their enthusiasm and effort on the night.

"We suffered the heartache of losing in the final to Marine last season at Marine, but hopefully we can put things right this time around."

    Liverpool's road to the final:
Formby - 3-0 (Simon, Kelly, Flora).
Southport - 3-0 (own goal, Pacheco, Spearing).

Waterloo Dock's road to the final:
    AFC Liverpool - 6-1.
    East Villa - 2-1.
    Tranmere Rovers - 6-5.
    Burscough - 3-0.

        £6 is a rip off.

Not really. I'd be happy to pay that if I lived nearby.

Likewise. My local conference team is about double that nowadays.

Krisztian Nemeth returns to the starting line-up as Liverpool Reserves take on Waterloo Dock in the final of the Senior Cup at Marine FC tonight.

Stephen Darby will captain the team and plays at left back with Emmanuel Mendy returning at right back. There are also starts for Damien Plessis, Daniel Pacheco and Gerardo Bruna.

Kick-off is at 7pm and admission on the night will be £6 for adults and £3 for concessions (under-16s and over 65s).

There's no Spearing - injured or in squad for West Ham?

That's a beautiful attacking lineup and just look at that bench!!

Saying that, I think we could have done with Dalle Valle (though that would be unfair on some of these lads). Also, a bit concerned about the Antwi / San Jose partnership - not very solid I'm afraid. :-(

Is this on netty-vision then young uns?

OK, we won 1-0 with Nemeth scoring the winner. Weijl broke down the left, beat the fullback for pace and crossed low to Nemeth who finished nicely.

                          Quick player review:

Bouzanis - Looks a decent prospect, kept the defence well organised and kicked well under pressure

Darby - Played at left back, was very solid but you could tell he was a little uncomfortable on his left foot.

Antwi - Beast of a man. Thought he'd improved a fair bit since I saw him last.

San Jose - Lovely touch on the ball for a CB, strong in the air. Quite impressive.

Mendy - Quick but poor on the ball today.

Bruna - Too lightweight in a physical game. Worry if he will make it in England

Pacheco - Same as above, but he was even worse. Most disappointing LFC player tonight. Have big doubts about him in English football sadly.

Pallson - Again a beast, very physical, could have used the ball better though

Pleissis - Confidence showed, but not his best game, gave the ball away a bit too often

Weijl - Brilliant first touch, good pace, great crosser of the ball. Like this lad a lot, but he needs to get back and defend too. One to watch.

Nemeth - Absolute class, head and shoulders the MOM. Awesome first touch and dribbling, very quick too. Get him on the bench for the 1st team!

I think Weijl and Nemeth are the main two who I would say have a chance of making the 1st team, although Weijl maybe needs to work on his attitude a little,

Have been interested in Weijl and Mendy as those are the types of players we need. Shame that Mendy isn't so good on the ball, judging by this one game. What attitude problem does Weijl have?
