    David N'Gog

    This season - 5 starts, 3 goals.

I like this lad, i think he's got potential and if we're patient and give him some match time, i think he could develop into a very useful player.

Quick, direct, tall and knows where the goal is. Obviously he's got a lot to work on and there's a chance he might not make it with us, but usually for 'nothing' youngsters like him, it's one season at the club to flop, and then cheerio.

I think and hope N'Gog will be different. I know it wont happen, but i honestly believe if he played a run of 10-15 games, he'd get goals.

The main thing i'm asking though, is if we didnt get another striker and N'Gog was the clear 'out and out striker' understudy to Torres, how much of a gamble would that be? It's a risk of course, but i think there's a good chance that he would do himself justice.

Anyone else quite rate the lad? (in the context of how young he is, how cheap he was and all that stuff)

He's still very raw but has a good touch and an eye for goal. I think Rafa has earmarked him as Torres' understudy.

It's a case of wait and see with Dave i think.

He's had flashes and he's also been gash but I think he's got a talent. He needs to progress next season and start pushing for a first team chance. He could become a very good player and I've been happy with his first season.

Don't know much about the lad but, seems like a very, very good prospect indeed.

I too hope he get's more 1st team action next season to show us that he's prepared to learn his trade the Liverpool way

I would say he has looked quite poor when he has played for us. Despite his height he seems to struggle with the power of the Premier league. Not suprising due to first year and his young age mind.

France U21 recently played England U21 and by all accounts that I have read he was the best player on the pitch and caused England all kinds of problems. He has got the talent.

I think his main problem has been when playing up front alone. A tough ask for any player, especially a Liverpool player who has to cope with packed defences.

I would not sell him and I think he looks set to be a very tidy player. How good he can become is hard to tell

yeah dannyman - he played in the france u 21 against england under 21 and just ran the show - looked streets ahead of everyone else and had the young english prospects run ragged which was certainly and encouraging sign.

I think he's looked what he is - a kid with no experience of english football, stepping into a higher level and trying to make his way.

But he's held his own, had a go, not gone hiding and during the poor spells, he's still managed to nab a couple of goals.

His sub appearances would've been what, 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there etc? I think confidence is a big thing for any youngster and i hope he gets some more playing time, because there's definitely something there.

he is definitely Raw thats for sure.....but with a good preseason under his belt would love to see him become the impact player Babel was supposed to become. he has looked quite erratic at times, gives the ball away cheaply at other times but then seen him keep the ball amazingly at other times!!

but It would be sheer lunacy for a club of our stature to be going into next season with only Torres as our out and out striker and Gerrard as back up, We have to have a quality back up next season.

Its a ****ing hard conundrum, good enough to be back up and not complain and also do the business with limited playing time.

Agree with all that. I would say you have explained the reasons he has looked poor. I'm not saying he's rubbish or anything, only that he looks a long way of being a first team contender.

There's something there all right, just as there is with Lucas, Spearing and Darby for instances. All at different levels in terms or progression and in terms of what should be expected of them.

I guess N'Gog main problem is that this season he has not had that much competition once Keane left. Next season he will likely be pushed further down the pecking order, despite improving as the season has gone on. I've said the same of Nemeth - this year was a golden opportunity for a reserve striker to come through and stake a claim to be cover for Torres. Chances like that don't come along very often.
