FFS that's absolute nonsense, I think we established in another thread that all the sendings of were justified and this one was no different. Shearer spent a couple of years sitting on the fence on match of the day, so to admit as a manager that one of his players deserved it then I don't see how the fans can be so outraged!

Although perhaps the best part about that article is the implication that it was the sending off that changed the game and robbed Newcastle of points. If they couldn't muster more than one shot on goal in 77mins at 2-0 down what makes them think they had any chance of scoring at least 2 goals in the remaining 13mins

So if Barton's challenge didn't result in a career threatening injury to Alonso then he should have got away with it?! Alonso does attract a lot of vicious tackles, mainly from frustrated opposition who can't deal with his ability within the rules of the game. I just hope Alonso makes a quick recovery and that cunt Barton ends up playing in the lower leagues.

The comments about Alan Shearer are totally wrong, he gave an honest assessment - which I thought was quite refreshing.

Indeed. Also, we monopolise possession in soooooo many games - with Alonso obviously intrisic to this - that opposition players get very frustrated and invariably boil over. It's glaringly obvious and absolutely no coincidence.

Alonso has got that knack of just nicking the ball away just as the player is about to slide in. He's been very lucky not to be seriously injured considering some of the awful challenges he's been on the end of this season.

They haven't been scrapping though that's their problem, they look like a team resigned to their fate.

I'm struggling to think who their best players are, but no doubt they've got clauses in their contracts allowing them to leave if Newcastle go down. So they probably don't give a toss anyway.

I haven't seem in mentioned previously but we dearly missed pace up front without Torres. The amount of time they had pushed quite far up the field, which left gaping holes to run into was unbelievable.

The problem was we had no one with pace to capitalise upon it
