    Torres slammed

Atletico Madrid sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has launched a blistering attack on Fernando Torres and says the club are better off without him. Torres recently admitted that he was glad to leave Atletico as he felt they were not a winning club.Atletico's sporting chief is reminded about letting Torres leave every time his club lose a game and is getting angry over the sale of the Spanish superstar.

Pitarch has strongly hit back at the Liverpool striker and says his move to Liverpool has not benefited him at all as he is yet to win any silverware with the Merseyside club.

Pitarch said: "Only remembering Fernando Torres when we have lost two games and when he makes declarations, saying that he left because we have not won anything, is unfair, especially because he has not won anything with Liverpool either.

"When someone justifies himself by saying, 'I have not won anything there', then I will look on the other side and tell him, 'You are not part of the success'.

"I believe that we have failed and disappointed some people. We never thought we would lose 5-1 against Racing

I think that self-serving rant may well backfire on him.

Well it might not be the 'blistering attack' the article wants us to believe, but he certainly sounds peeved.

I don't blame him. Should the club have kept Torres against his will? of course not. they did the right thing, sold him and got what seemed a fair price.

Is he not just responding to Torres' claim that he left the club as they were not a winning side? All he is doing is defending his club, doesn't seem to be the vitriolic attack that the headline proclaims really?

We haven't won anything in a while - what I wouldn't give for the PL this season!
