The nerve of people, disagreeing!Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI love the way people completely dismiss things when they dont like the prospect.
I too can't agree with the implication Rafa doesn't know what he's doing with certain players who need an 'arm around the shoulder'. He knows exactly what he's doing, and tough as it may seem I think it's an approach that stands us in good stead in terms of our collective mentality.Like blood on iron

Didn't Wenger make a comment at the point we bought babel that he was not up to it, or not worth it or something like that? Most of us took it as sour grapes then, but he might have actually meant it...Originally posted by red g View Postbang on the money with that comment.......if i here one more time that he would have flourished under wengerOriginally posted by dww View PostPeople constantly say it though - even if not in this thread.
I remain unconvinced that the players that have failed under Rafa wouldn't fail at any other top club. In fact I think Babel has just never been as good as people thought and that if his opinions were as rumoured Ayesteran called that one right.
the reality some players just dont fulfill there promise specially coming to another country.....
and wenger has many a failure under his belt to

Nothing to do with disagreeing, as you well know.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostThe nerve of people, disagreeing!

It always happens on here. Probably other forums too, as it goes. If there's an article suggesting something people dont like, it's always dismissed as 'bull****' and treated as if it's making the most radical of suggestions.
I guess it's a method of dealing with potential bad news.
I'm not too sure where you got the notion that rafa 'doesnt know what he's doing' when it comes to players like that, i certainly didnt suggest that.
Easy and quick conclusion to jump to though, in search of valdifying a point, though. Whether it's a correct conclusion or not, doesnt really matter

Yeah I know, not that paranoid just yetOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostWasnt talking about you here, just a general trend on the site whereby any news or theories that people dont like, are just dismissed out of hand, as if they're as likely as a dog scoring the winner in the FA Cup final

I am pretty sure I haven't just jumped to a conclusion. Someone said people can be over-critical of Rafa's man management but that he clearly knows what he's doing, you then say well yeah he knows what he's doing with certain types of players - pretty clearly implies he doesn't know what he's doing with other types. Seems to me you just shifted the goalposts a bit from there, but that was the point of yours initially taken up. Disagreed with rather than dismissed, I'd have said.
I'm also not sure you understood what you referred to as a 'freakishly weird example'. Is that disagreeing or being dismissive, by the way?Like blood on iron

And as Chelsea are in the cup final again this year its pretty possible it might happen again.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

Gerrard was clearly a billy big bollocks who thought he was more important than anyone else. Seems like he has finally grown up enough and smartened up enough to realize that teams perform better than individuals and that he was part of the problem.Originally posted by dww View PostHmmm. Everyone said Gerrard was one of these 'arm around the shoulder' type players. Is it possible that those players that have failed to respond to Rafa weren't good enough or suited to the PL?

Maybe Babel's problem is in his head, but on the pitch his problem is that he can't control the ball properly, runs into groups of players emerging without the ball and manages to choose the wrong option more often than not.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostBabel's the most obvious one.
I'm not saying Rafa's style is wrong - i'm just saying, it doesnt allow for players of Babel's mentality.
I don't think an arm around the shoulder is going to fix that is it.
And out of interest, there seems to be an assumption that all it would take for Babel to perform is an arm around the shoulder and a bit of mollycoddling. Where does that come from? Who identified this panacea and WHY will it work?

It's not that he doesnt know what he's doing with certain types of players - he just doesnt have much time to entertain their mentality and to a point, i think he's right. I would probably not have much time for players who were lazy and couldnt be arsed to put in a shift for LFC. And likewise, players who give their all, would certainly be ones i'd be appreciative of as a manager.Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostNot sure I follow, it was a positive article.

The conclusion i said you seemed to be jumping to, was the suggestion about Rafa not knowing what he was doing, which i dont think was really what was being said.
The 'freakishly weird example' was Joey Barton, who i think most would agree, isnt really a typical case to look at. If the idea was put across that Joey Barton was a typical example of a PL footballer, then yes, i would dismiss that idea.
