    Reserves off to Amsterdam

    Steve Hunter, 7 May 2009
    LFC Official Website

Liverpool Reserves this morning jetted off to Amsterdam ahead of their friendly with Dutch side Ajax in a friendly on Friday night.

Kick-off will be at 6.45pm BST and you can watch the entire match live on LFC TV. You can also watch the match live online with our fantastic e-Season Ticket service.

Our build-up show starts at 6.30pm when Matt Critchley will be joined by former Red David Johnson, while David Fairclough will be part of our commentary team.

Gary Ablett's side, who finished the 2008-2009 campaign in seventh place in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North, are taking on the Dutch side to raise funds for local charities.

Ajax recently won their reserve team league and the match promises to be a good test for Ablett's men.

Are the lads playing the Ajax first team then? Surely not, but the article makes it sound that way?

It would be interesting to know who has gone and who has stayed out of the reserves.

Has Spearing, Darby, Nemeth all gone?
                  Forwards.......

A dramatic stoppage time own goal from Stephen Darby gave Ajax a 1-0 win over Liverpool Reserves in a prestigious friendly on Friday night.
It was cruel misfortune for the reserve team skipper as he spectacularly deflected a cross from substitute Danilo Sousa Campos beyond the reach of Dean Bouzanis and into the back of the net.

The friendly encounter in Amsterdam was staged to raise funds for the charity 'Right to Play' and on a lovely summer's evening Gary Ablett's side certainly gave a good account of themselves.

Darby actually had a great chance to win it for the Reds in the 83rd minute when a superb run presented him one-on-one with the Dutch international Martin Stekelenburg. Unfortunately, the defender could only shoot high over the bar.

Krisztian Nemeth had his moments during his 70 minute outing. He found himself clean through on goal in the sixth minute but a heavy touch gave Stekelenburg the chance to clear.

Then a superb through ball from the Hungarian sent Ryan Crowther racing through on goal but he fired a good chance over the top.

Nemeth had another great chance in the second half but he was denied at point blank range by the Ajax stopper.

Bouzanis then did well to keep out Evander Sno's header and just as the game looked to be heading for a draw the Dutch reserve champions clinched the victory in stoppage time.

Ajax team: Martin Stekelenburg, Daylon Claasen, Calvin MacIntosch, Daley Blind, Robert Schilder, Jan-Arie van der Heijden, Marvin Hasselbaink, Evander Sno, Edgar Manucharyan, Jeffrey Sarpong (Danilo Sousa Campos 45).

Liverpool team: Martin Hansen (Dean Bouzanis 45), Martin Kelly (Emmanuel Mendy 77), Stephen Darby, Mikel San Jose, Daniel Ayla, Damien Plessis, Ryan Crowther (Gerardo Bruna 45), Victor Palsson (Steven Irwin 45), Krisztian Nemeth (Nikola Saric 70), Daniel Pacheco (Vitor Flora 70), Vincent Weijl (David Amoo 77).
