United have looked good but then they looked better last year and at some point age has to catch up with van der Sar, Giggs and Scholes who have been key figures to the this year. Added to the fact that unlike previous years where if they wanted a player they simply spunked the cash on them it appears that with Tevez they feel the need to haggle.

Also Chelsea have an aging squad and no certain plan for the future. It is unknown how much they will have to spend but they have a fair amount of work to do in freshening up the squad.

I see next season looking a lot more hopeful than I did this season before it started. We have gone from also rans to genuine contenders and some people still want to see only the downsides.

It is not about seeing the downsides though, its about expecting the hardest battle and being fully prepared. Expecting a harder season than this season is totally realistic IMO. If we just sit on our laurels and think it will be a cruise we will get ko'd before we know it.

Arsenal will be better, of that I have absolutely no doubt. Then there is Chelsea who will be there or thereabouts, Scum who will spend massively if Ronaldo goes. Citeh will get their chequebook out bigtime, Villa will be better for their experience and then you can also include Spurs.

And of course we will also strengthen so we will still contend, all I was trying to say was it will be very hard and IMO harder than this season.

It's realistic in the sense that it is perfectly plausible. I don't see what anyone gains from doom mongering. This season has been frustrating in many ways but at the same time I see absolutely no reason not to be positive about the future.

You miss my point - its not doom mongering, it is being realistic. The future is very positive and realistically we WILL be big contenders, but it will be a harder campaign. Nowt doom and gloom about that.

No I see your point and exaggerated for effect. I'm not sure that this form of realism is anything other than pessimism with an implied value judgment of that over optimism. There are arguments to be made either way for what next season will hold horrors or glory - I really can't see any reason for believing that a less positive view is inherently more realistic.

for the first time in a long long time i am going into next season with genuine belief and not just hope......and i think the players believe the same. When was the last time you heard our players so pumped up for next season when the last one hasnt finished

I am hoping that finally after 20 years of telling the mancs next year....i may actually be right

If they win their last two games they'll beat their all-time record points total. Doesn't seem to be overwhelming evidence of a massive decline.

Some of us were saying that 7 months ago.

And it wasn't actually a reason any more then than it is now. It's just a statement of the obvious - a selective version of 'not getting enough points to win the league means you won't win the league.'

I know United have been very dodgy at times this season but i've always been of the opinion if you win the title you deserve to. It isn't no fluke.
All we can do now is get max points in the next two games and look to next season.
I'm disappointed we didn't do better in Europe and the FA Cup though, that's the thing that pisses me off most.

what people are forgetting is that united played **** and still look like wining the title. we played class and are not going to win ( bar a massive massive massive **** up by scum)... united can get better next season, but can we???? i think in order for us to improve, we need to keep this team together and blow all our money on a tevez or silva

They were defensively superb and thats what won them the title.......they didnt play their best football but the reality is they wont get many more points next year

and we were lucky first 1/3, poor 2/3 and awesome last 1/3 thats how i would sum our season up.

I think you're right about Chelsea but he doesn't say anything about it being a record points total.

Not sure what record it could be though as they already have the most Premier League titles
